Hi,
I am searching for my great granddad, i have been told he was Daniel Delaney and partner or wife was Kate (possible surname delahunty). There children were Thomas (Francis) Delaney (abt.1922) who moved to England (my granddad) ho married may Jones. My dad says his brothers from memory were Dan (the eldest), Patrick/Paddy, Jim?james, Ken (who may have moved to Canada) married to Jean and sisters were Pauline, Eileen. I am told they lived straight up past nenagh bridge, turn right and somewhere there.
I have tried for two years to search for them and i am either missing the obvious or there is no information on my family. I am really at a brick wall, i have tried ancestry, gedmatch, and my dad an i have both had dna tests done. My username on ancestry is redsugarcrystals and my tree is under 'basden family tree'.
Someone please help!!
Thank you in advance, any help appreciated
Liz (Delaney) Basden

Daniel & Katie married on the 9th January 1918, at the Catholic Church in Nenagh. First marriages for both and both of full age, groom is listed as a labourer with residence at Lissbrien[?] Silvermines, and bride's residence is Silver Street Nenagh. Father's are Daniel Delaney and Thomas Delahunty, both labourers, he witnesses are Michael Donohoe and Bridget Donohoe. The groom 'signed' the register using his mark.
The children of Daniel and Katie would have been born less than 100 years ago, so their birth records are not available online. You may be able to spot some probable matches of their index records after on the BMD Index on FamilySearch which covers up to 1958 (26 counties) - their version of the index includes mother's surname from abt 1929.
There's a good match for Katie with her family on the 1901 census at Silver Street, Nenagh and in 1911 the same family appears at Silver Street, although Katie seems to be missing.

It looks like my link to the marriage didn't work (should be fixed now) - Marriage of Daniel Delaney and Katie Delahunty 9th January 1918
Ancestry does not have the Irish Civil records, only the index - you can view full civil BMD records on the free IrishGenealogy website
(births up to 100 years ago, marriages up to 75 yrs ago and deaths up to 50 years ago - full images of the registers are available for most years)I'm pretty sure that's your Kate/Katie - the address matches the one given on the marriage. Her parents are Thomas Delahunty and Kate Donohue - here's a link to Kate jnr's birth as Catherine Delahunty born 21 August 1892, place of birth is Nenagh Workhouse.
If you wish to try tracing forward you can use the index details to order research birth certs from the GRO to see the full details - see option 1a at this link on the IrishGenealogy website. Download and print the form mentioned, and fill out the index details (name, year/quarter, district, volume & page). Research certs cost €4 and can be emailed or posted. When searching the birth index (see the FamilySearch link in previous post) enter just the parents surnames, i.e. Delaney & Delahunty along with the district Nenagh, and the years.

Hello,
Although the Delaney name is common, I will take a shot. My great great grandmother was Mary Ann Delaney of Nenagh. She immigrated to Canada in 1852. She had a sister Sara/Sarah.
She died at the age of 75 in Carleton Place Ontario on April 26, 1910. She was married to Francis Joseph Girouard (Girard). i will check on Ancestry if we have links. I am under Kelly St Denis.
Regards,
Kelly

Hey, not sure if this is still active, seems that Katie Delahunty is the daughter of Thomas Delahunty and Kate Delahunty from Nenagh. Katie was 1 of 14 in Nenagh. She married Daniel, who was the son a Daniel and they also had a son Daniel Delaney as well.

Hi Liz,
I would be a direct relative of John Delahunty. He was Thomas Delahuntys father and Kate Delahuntys grand father.

Liz - I read your post and believe we are related
I see your post is dated April 2018, so almost 5 years on, you may have found your information and ceased looking
I am Michael Patrick Delaney, born in Tipton; West Midlands. Im the second eldest ( of 4) of Daniel ( Father to me and brother to your Grand farther)
I have a sketchy history, born and live in Engalnd. But my Dad was a certain Daniel Delaney ( known as Danny, preferably Dan) - He was the eldest of 12 born in Nenagh to Daniel and Kathleen Delaney ( nee Delahaunty) - My Dad knew she was called Katie by others, but she always wanted to be called Kathleen- he may have been the only one to refer to her as Kathleen (other than Mother) - he regulary and fondly recalled she singing to him "Danny Boy" as an infant - he remembered the song "Ill take you home again Kathleen" and believed it was a song for his mother .
My Dad died around 40 years ago - 16th August . I met your grandad - he came to the funeral in Tipton, West Midlands
My Dad was the eldest - there was Uncle Paddy - Pauline was the youngest - Mary in Canada - Eileen who lived in Ballintoher until her own end - and others in Newport (Wales - she married a dentist I belive or was that Mary ?) ) and Blackburn ( he died early) - forgotten the rest . My Dad would have been born in mid 1920's - outside of Nenagh in Ballintoher ( your right, turn right after the railway bridge- walked it too many times in my short stays) . He died early age of 64 years old, he smoked himself to a lung cancer death.
The house in Ballintoher seems to be have been done up but easily seen on google street map - there is a large monkey puzzle tree still exists - outside of next doors property . Next door on the other side was a farm of Mrs Allen, from where I was sent around with a bucket to get water.
Uncle Paddy lived in Tullaheady - he had a large family, mostly Girls, But I remember my Cousin Bernadette fondly, she was going to become a Nun ( c 1969) At that time, their was a County Tipperary hurling final held in Thurles if I remember, Uncle paddy and me cycled to see it and I broke his eldest daughters bike ! I know Uncle Paddy has died.
I stayed in Ballintoher for a couple of weeks summer 1969 - I only once returned for my Grandmother, Kathline, funeral in March I think 1972 or 73, she was buried next to a wall on left hand side as you walk into church yard with her Husband; Daniel - he died in 1954, before I was born in 1955. During the funeral, I stayed with my Dads aunt Lizzie in Pound Street - she had a son, Paudy, who liked his guitar and playing whisky in the jar by thin lizzy - who I know also has died of recent years
I live in Braintree, Essex - Im retired last 3 years, Im 67 years old
Ive got Nenagh on my bucket list by next year if not this - theirs a lot on that bucket list !
Post back if you are still enagaged in your search, But Im certain I dont think I could add more
Best wishes
Mike

Hi,
Thank you everyone for your amazing information! Sorry, I haven't replied, I wasn't getting notifications. Mike, you have just found me on ancestry and Kelly, I think I've seen you on my ancestry, so I will take a look now.
I get messages through my ancestry, so better to speak through that x
