Looking for information on the Irish origins of the above McGees who were born in the 1820s and emigrated in the 1840s to Brooklyn NY. Owen and his brother James, my great great grandfather, operated successful distilleries in the Cobble Hill and Red Hook section of Brooklyn. I have reason to believe that they came from County Longford and perhaps in the 1700s from Fermanagh.
I am visiting Ireland in June 2018 and plan to do research on these relatives and would like to focus on one area, ie, Longford, if that is actually where they came from.

Welcome back to Ireland Reaching Out!
I searched on Roots Ireland and did not find a baptismal record in Co.Longford for either Owen or Felix (I focused on those two ancestors because the given names are less common). This could mean that they were not from Longford or they were from Longford but their parish no longer has records back to the 1820s.
(I'm assuming your ancestors were RC).
When I expanded the search to all of Ireland, I got quite a few records with Co. Louth being very prominent. However, without knowing the parents names, it will be difficult to confirm records.
Have you considered autosomal DNA testing?
You can also post your ancestor's stories to our XO Chronicles site https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/message-board
Let me know if you have any questions.
