Hello!
I have been desperately searching for any records at all of my great-great grandmother, JULIA PARTLIN, and her family.

They were from Ballinrobe, but I can find no records at all of her, with the exception of her and her husband's names on the Parish Registry for their marriage. (Where her name was actually written as JUDY PARLANE.)  On the registry, the marriage place was listed as Ballinrobe, the Parish Variants were listed as Ballinrobe and Partry, and Diocese was Tuam.

While trying to research the PARTLIN family, I found multiple spellings and variations of the name for what appear to be the same people. The spellings include, (but are not limited to): Parlane, Partland, Parlan, Parlin, Partlan, amongst others.  I have found NO Julia Partlin listed in any of the records for Ballinrobe that would match her.  (I found one Julia Partland who was born in 1875...but that is more than 20 years after my Julia.)

The information I DO know about her:

Her name was Julia Partlin, and she was born in August, 1851. (Probably in Ballinrobe.)

She married John K Walsh in Ballinrobe in Feb, 1872. Witness names on register are difficult to read, but I believe they were a Pat Connor and Mary Connor. (I do not know of any Connors in my family line as of yet.)

I found a letter sent by Julia's daughter in 1910 where she mentions meeting up with an "Uncle P. Partlin" while visiting Ballinrobe, so I assume that Julia most likely had a brother whose name started with a "P".

She and her husband immigrated to New York the same year as their marriage. (1872)

They had three children:

Daughter:  Mary Theresa (b-1877)

Daughter: Catherine (b-1879)

Son:  James M. (b-1880)

Julia (Partlin) Walsh died March 16, 1914.

I have been stuck on this line for years now, and would appreciate any information anyone might have about this family.

Thank you!
Jessica

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Most likely Julia came from Clooncorraun townland in Ballinbrobe ciivl parish. I found these three families in the 1901 census. The first may be your P. Partlin.

The 1855-1856 Griffiths Valuation head of hosuehold listing for Ballinrobe civil parish shows three Parlan records in Clooncorraun townland: two James' and one Hubert.

  • Hello!

Thank you so much for your response!
I've come across Hubert and his family over and over while researching, and I have a feeling this family is almost certainly related to my Julia somehow.  It's just frustrating because I can't confirm it.  One thing I noticed about Hubert and his wife Margaret, though, is Hubert would have only been 19 in 1851, when my Julia was born, and Margaret would have only been 11.  (I know people married young back then, but not that young.  Haha.)  So chances are, they probably aren't her parents, but perhaps Hubert is an uncle or something.

The Pat Partland in the first link could potentially be promising as the brother, though he is a bit older than Julia. (He would have been about twelve when she was born.)

I just wish I could find some sort of record with Julia's name on it.  (I've also searched for anything that could possibly be her under "Judy", and "Judith", and even just the letter "J". No luck.)
