John McNamara was born about 1789 in the town of Gort, Parish of Kiltartan. He enlisted in the 32nd Regiment of Foot at Dublin in March 1809. He was discharged in June 1829 (a sergeant), suffering from TB. He gave his occupation as clerk. His discharge refers to him being on detachment at Maryborough prior to his discharge. He was discharged at Dublin, but it is unknown whether he returned to Gort following his discharge.
John married Ann Miller (possibly born about 1786, place unknown) and they had a daughter Sarah, thought to have been born about 1808 or 1809. Sarah’s death certificate (in New South Wales, Australia) states her birthplace only as Connaught. Sarah married Robert Tighe of the 28th Regiment in Corfu in 1825 when both the 28th and 32nd regiments were deployed in the Ionian Islands.
John McNamara died between 1829 and 1835, as his widow Ann emigrated to Australia with her daughter and son-in-law, in September 1835.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone who might have some information about John McNamara or Ann Miller
thanks, Louise

Dear Louise:
Many thanks for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board and welcome to the site!
I have passed this post to one of our local volunteers in Gort Sr deLourdes who will be able to assist you. You might give her a week or so to reply from today's date due to the Christmas holidays.
If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Thank you for your interest in Ireland Reaching Out.
You may also like to look at the XO Chronicles (tab at the top of the page) which feature ancestors, buildings and local historical timeline events in each parish. You may add to them if you wish.
Kind regards,
Jane.

Dear Louise,
I know that this is four years after your query. I lived in Gort in 2018.
Unfortunately, the Gort church records only commence in 1850. The Civil records of births, marriages and deaths commence in 1864.
I could not find any reference previous to those dates.
Sory again ,
