Looking for info on who the parents were of Guliemus Murphy who married Maria Mullery in the early 1800s. One of their children was Thoma's Murphy. Thanks from a Yank.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I will alert our parish liaison for Clontuskert that you have posted a message. Do you have more specifics on when the marriage occurred?  Let me know if you have not heard back in ten days or so.

  • Hi Roger! Allegedly they were married on 25 Sep 1836 • Clontuskert, Galway, Ireland. Thank you so much for your help.

  • In case you weren't already aware of the fact, some parish priests created Latin (or pseudo-Latin) forms of children's names to put in the baptismal registers (they usually did the same with the first names of the parents and sponsors), and Gulielmus is what was frequently used for William (or Liam).  A few of the Latin names, like Cornelius, became popular in their own right, but your ancestor would probably never actually have been called Gulielmus.

  • Yes, I was thinking it was the Norman version of William. Thanks for the heads up Kevin, it's much appreciated.
