Michael Mahon b.1865 at Looscaun to John Mahon and Bridget Leonard is my grandfather. I hope to find descendants of his sister Mary who married Thomas Cooney, from a nearby parish. Michael's other siblings emigrated to Brisbane, Australia; Michael and brother Patrick to the USA. I have information on the Leonards also and  would be happy to share.

    Hi Carol.

I think this is Mary Mahon and Thomas Cooney's wedding record which I have added. They were married in Killimor church. They had 10 children.Thomas, John Joseph. Lawerence Arthur, Thomas Francis, Mary Frances,Bridget Anne, Aileen, Mary Josephine, PatrickAlbert, William Alen. Caroline Ita. They were resident in Tiaranascragh.https://www.townlands.ie/galway/longford/tiranascragh/tiranascragh/tira…

It might be a good idea to put a note in Tiarnascragh parish to see if anyone in that parish know of any of them.

  • Thank you Nora for the marriage record of  Mary Mahon and Thomas Cooney. I will add Tiarnascragh

to search for Cooney descendants. I hope one of them is interested in family history. Thanks for your help. Carol

  • Hi Carol! You say you have some info on Leonards from Galway. My great great grandfather, Michael Leonard born around 1826, came to Maine USA in the 1840s. Supposedly he was from Galway. Any info you  might have would be greatly appreciated! Cathy Leonard

  • Hi Cathy,

My ggrandmother Bridget Leonard Mahon 1836-1916 had a brother Michael b. 1837 who emigrated to Australia and died there.

Would you have your Michael's parents names?

  • Hi Carol,

I'm afraid I don't have Michael's parents names. Michael came to the US (New England) in the 1840s. I believe he came from the Annaghdown or Clare region. Thank you.

  • Hello Cathy, At this point I don't see a connection but I never give up. I'm now in touch with a DNA match to my Bridget Leonard. Maybe something will show up in the future. Carol Crowley

  • Do you have documentation on Michael's arrival in the USA?    There is a possibility if he was born in 1828 in Woodford. Have you taken a DNA test with ancestry.com. Carol

  • Hi Carol,

I'm interested in sharing information on your Leonard relatives. I'm related to the Ahascragh Leonards who are a bit north of Looscaun. The Ahascragh group have several families from Lissyegan,  Eglish, Killosolan and as far south as Kilconnell who all seem to be related and ofcourse all over the world.

I'd be interested in sharing information to see if the  Looscaun Leonards are also related. You can email me directly on xpeterleonard@gmail.com if you wish.

    Many thanks

    Peter
