Hello! I am researching the parents and families of my 2x and 3x great grandparents.  So far, I’ve gleaned the information below from online resources (such as ancestry.com, familytree.org, etc.) and I am especially grateful for the records available at irishgenealogy.ie!

MICHAEL FARAHER/FARRAHER (?-?) and WINIFRED KEATING (1822-1872), the parents of my great-great grandfather, raised Thomas and he may have had siblings Michael and Mary. They seem to have been Tuam natives. THOMAS HENRY FARRAHER/FARRAGHER (1856-1907), my great-great grandfather, was a letter carrier in Tuam and raised his family there before he died at the Mater Misericordia University Hospital in North Dublin.

WILLIAM NASH (1824-1875) and BRIDGET FARRELL (1845?- 1905?) (shows up in some records as “Carroll” but I think it’s a transcription error) married 13 Oct 1864 in Tuam. William, who may have been a widower (of perhaps Ellen Boyce in 1848?) before marrying Bridget, was a “pensioner” (what is that?).  William and Bridget were the parents of six children who all seem to have been born and died in Tuam, with the exception of my great-great grandmother CATHERINE (KATE) NASH [FARRAHER/FARRAGHER] (1866-1935) who immigrated to America with her children following the death of her husband.

With so many generations of these families living in Tuam (many on Galway Road, Bishop Street, High Street), I wonder if it might be possible to discover where some of them are buried (I assume in Tuam?).  I haven’t had any luck with that despite a lot of searching on the internet.  Any help you can provide would be very appreciated!  Thank you!

Melissa

  • Hi Jennifer

Death record are hard to find in Ireland unless you know the year they died. I have bee researching the Irish for 17 years now and only have one death certificate. My great-aunt Rita was able to tell me where and when her grandmother died so I was able to find her death record. It had her cause of death and her husband was the informant.

Some death records don't show informants. They only have the persons name and cause of death so you don't know if you have the same person. You could always buy a days pass to the Irish Family History Foundation ($12) or check out fee parish records at https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/irish-records-what-is-available/church…

    I hope this helps
