I have been tracing my wife's Irish roots for quite some time. At first we thought her 3rd Great-Grandfather, Michael Mogan (b. abt 1831), came from Tiranascragh or Killimor in the Clonfert Diocese.
Recent research indicates the Mogan family was actually from the Oranmore Parish, specifically Carrowmoneash. Michael emigrated to the U.S. in the early 1850's. A younger brother, Thomas, left Ireland for the U.S. about 1868.
Our family is in the midst of a long-planned trip to Scotland and Ireland. The Ireland portion of the trip originally included a stop in the Clonfert Diocese based on the aforementioned misinformation.
Now we have retooled our itinerary and will head to County Galway next Monday and Tuesday, 26 & 27 June, 2017.
Is there still a church building (or ruins) in the Oranmore Parish from the era 1830-1855? If so, my wife & I would dearly love to visit the site. Any information, insights or additional history would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Tom and Nicole:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Here is the link to the current parish in Oranmore https://www.galwaydiocese.ie/parishes/oranmore You may want to e-mail the Parish office for Oranmore and they should be able to let you know about the location of the church from the mid-19th century.
The 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Oranmore civil parish shows a Thomas Mogan in Carrowmoneash.

You may have viewed the parish register but here is the link for records from 1833-1881 http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0634
I assume you know there was a Mogan family in the 1901 census and the 1911 census in Carrowmoneash.

Also, found this link. Not sure how old this church is in Oranmore but it is now a library.

Hi Tom & Nicole,
I live less than 5 minutes from Carrowmoneash.
Thomas Mogan died 20th October 1865 in Newtownbutler / Carrowmoneash. I will try and locate Grave over weekend, as record appears on a Graveyard listing.
Please contact me direct on my IrelandXO e-mail lackagh@irelandxo.com and we can arrange to meet.
Regards
Gerard, Parish Liaison Lackagh
