Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Just so you know, all message posts in individual parishes end up on the main message board.
Do you have baptismal records for Thomas and Catherine. Did they marry in Ireland? I did not find a marriage record for Catherine McHugo on Roots Ireland in East Galway.

No baptismal records on Roots for Catherine McHugo. There are many Thomas Donahue records around 1840. Need parents names to confirm any of these records.

Sorry about that! Just deleted the duplicates - I'm new to this site :)
I have not been able to find a baptismal record for either - it's very confusing. However, I have a marriage certificate from Loughrea church that says Catherine mcHugo and Thomas Donoghoe / Donohoe married in 1882 and his father was listed as Michael and hers as John - her residing in Duniry and him in Barnaboy. Later birth records for their children list the parish of Woodford as well as her death record in 1895. There are McHugos in Portumna but not the correct ones - thank you again for helping, I've hit a wall!

This is probably the family in the 1901 census.

Try https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en for a Patrick, Thomas , Peter Donohoe . It probably is the Loughrea district.Barnaboy is in the Catholic parish of Ballinakill which is a neighbouring parish to Woodford/Lauscaun. They are both in the Cival parish of Ballinakill.

Nora, thank you so much - that's them! I'm attaching my great grandmother's birth certificate which correlates what you said - it says Woodford, Loughrea. Catherine's death certificate also has Woodford on it. Unable to figure out which death certificate is Thomas' - unless he moved from Barnaboy before he passed away. I'll start looking for Michael in that area!

Thank you Nora! Do you have any idea on how I could get more information for Catherine McHugo? Her marriage certificate says she was born in 1858 but her death lists her as 30 in 1895. . - is it possible she was born under a different first name she was born under a different first name?
-
Woodford Heritage Centre may be able to find her.
She might have been baptised in Ballinakill Catholic parish which seems to include Duniry .They may have missed recording some unfortunately.
http//registers.nli.ie. Try search for Duniry, and.Ballinakill
She may have been born anytime between 1858 and 1862. Sometimes she may use the 2nd Christian name rather than her 1st.
www.rootsireland.ie is another site that might help.

Thanks nora! I found a Maria McHugo in the Clonfert / Duniry book on the NLI site, but it lists her father as Patrick instead of John (which is on the marriage certificate). This seems like a likely candidate however!

This maybe of interest. The parish of Duniry has two main McHugo families.
From the information you have given her , maybe the following is relevant:
John McHugo b1840 m Bridget Martin
They had the following children :
Bridget (Delia) b 1864
Michael b 1873
Thomas
Martin b 1868
Kate (Catherine) b 1875
Margaret b1866
Mary b 1871
John b 1876
Winifred b 1879Kate married Donohoe
And had the following children
Tom b1900
Paddy b1901
Danny
TessIs it possible this is the family you are looking for ?
Best wishesKev

Hello,
I am also looking for McHugos from around this area, but mine are a little earlier. My gg grandmother was a Catherine "Kitty" McHugo born around 1827, but I know she had a brother Thomas born around 1824 and another brother John, born around 1831. The three of them were convicted in Portumna court (I think) on 27 Dec 1848 of stealing two sheep from a Mr Nugent, and sentenced to trasnportation to Hobart in Australia. Kitty and Thomas were subsequently transported and started new families in Hobart. However, John died in 1850 in Kilmainham prison while waiting for transportation.
The only other information I have is that there was another sister Biddy and I believe their mother's name was Mary (these bits of information come from convict records for each of Kitty and Thomas.
If anyone has seen anything like this I would appreciate a "heads up".
Thanks and regards,
Peter McKenna
