'm trying to find any information regarding my great grandfather James Doyle, born 30th november 1885, he moved to wales prior to 1918 but i can find no record for his birth at all, which is stopping me finding him on the census as i don't know which james doyle he is, and i really struggle with getting to grasps with the area and locations. parents names are possibly joseph and nellie and had a brother called willy , that's as much as i know

  • Where did your James Doyle marry ?

His civil marriage cert would usually show his father's name and occupation which could help narrow down possible matches, and a Catholic church marriage could include names of both parents. The marriage record may also include relations as witnesses - e.g brothers, cousins etc.

  • I've had a look through the birth for the Kilmore area in 1885 and a few years either side - no promising matches. The registration district for Kilmore would be Wexford (town) and the sub-district would probably Bannow.

There are two Doyle households in the Kilmore area that might be connected - one in Ballycleary townland, and the second at Ballyhealy North townland.  Both these townlands are located a short distance to the north east of Kilmore Quay.

  • The Doyle households I mentioned are both from the 1901 census and were the closest I was able to find to Kilmore Quay. No sign of your James but one of these could be related - maybe James had already moved to Wales by then ?

I think it would be worth checking for James, possibly with siblings or even his parents, on the 1901 and 1911 census in Wales.
