Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I checked the 1827 Tithe records for Ballinrobe and located about eleven Mellot records. Likely some are for your ancestors.

The RC church records start late: 1843 baptisms and 1850 for marriages. http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/1047
The 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Ballinrobe showed many Mellott/Mellott records.

Josephine,
My great grandfather Michael Mellet was born around1845 and emigrated to Pittsburgh in 1872. According to his death certificate his father was Patrick Mellet. I suspect that might be the Patrick you referred to as being born in 1797, (your great grandfather's brother). I would be interested in anything you have about Patrick and his spouse, who you indicated was a twin.
This family line is very strong as my grandmother (Michael's daughter) had nine children and most of them have large families.
However, the Mellet ancestors were mostly women, so the Mellet name is not very prominent anymore.
Roger,
I will take a look at your references, they should be helpful. Most of my genealogy work has been US centric so your Irish references are helpful.

Greetings to you!
My G.Grandfather Martin Moylett/Mylott (1865) was the son of John Mellett & Mary Rowland married 1854, Ballinrobe Parish.
Martin came to the U.S. (New Jersey) married Mary Morrin(Galway) in 1894 and they had 10 chilren, one of whom was my Grandfather Thomas Raymond Mylott.
I am trying to fill gaps. Who were John's Mellett's brothers and sisters?
Who was his father and mother?
Who were the children (Martin's siblings)? It was a big family. We believe his sister Catherine came to the states and he met her at the boat(oral history). We have learned that the "proper" spelling of our name is Mylott (when Martin natural7zed he changed Moylett to Mylott. Mellett was a variant and DNA has shown this as well. So I look at Mylott,Moylett, Melott, Mellott.
Any help greatly appreciated! Thank you.
