Michael English and Mary Sullivan lived and worked on the estate of Jervis P Bushe, Esq. at the Townland of Glencairn. The property is now in the hands of the Cistercian nuns as Glencairn Abbey. Estate cottages near the main road from Cappoquin were occupied by this family who had 9 children: Jeremiah 1816, Helen (Ellen) 1817, Bridget 1819, Denis 1822, Michael 1824, Andrew 1827, Caherine 1829, Mary 1831, John 1835. The children were all baptised in the church at Tallow.
The majority of the family left Ireland by 1853, starting with Jeremiah who went to New York in 1838/39 and ending with Michael English in 1853. On the sea voyage over, Mary Sullivan English, the mother of all these children, died of cholera and was buried at sea. I have not been able to find records of Michael and Andrew English.
The parents of Mary Sullivan English were Michael Sullivan and Mary Coleman. Mary had a brother Michael Sullivan who came to New York in the 1840s and spent time at the Alms House from 1847 to 1859 on Blackwell's Island in the East River of New York City. He died there and is buried with the family in Calvary Cemetery.
I have no information on the parents of Michael English. If Irish naming patterns prevail, perhaps his father was a Jeremiah English. Anyone having a hint or an idea, I would appreciate input.

Welcome back to Ireland Reaching Out!
The Tallow records go back to 1797 but Roots Ireland did not have a record and likely Michael was born pre-1797. I also did not find a marriage record. All of the parishes around Tallow including the parishes in east Cork have records starting in the early 1800s usually around 1820.
I did check the Tithe listings for Lismore and Mocollop and the only English was a Sarah English. Not sure how she is related to Michael.

Thanks Roger, I knew about Sarah but could not find a connection. Based on Michael English's death date and given age in New York, I figure he was born about 1791. I have looked around in various Cork parishes near to Tallow without result, but maybe I should reactivate that effort as the RC records are now indexed for many parishes on Ancestry. Since it was so far back, the likelihood is slim, but maybe I will get lucky.
