My great great grandparents, Philip McGovern and Catherine Donley, were married in Rathkenny 21 May 1857. They had childen in in Slane, Collon, Stamullin and Castletown. Any information would be appreciated.

    Hello again!

I did a search on Roots Ireland and found four baptismal records for McGovern children where the father was Philip and the mother had a surname of Donley. The four children were Mary 1858 N/R 1860 (not sure why there is no name) Bernard 1868 Julia 1872. Were there other children?

  • Of course there were other children, they were Irish! The others were Bridget (1862 Collon), Anne (1863 Collon), Thomas (21 June 1865 Collon), and Kate (date and place unk). I had found the info on Roots Ireland previously, and my assumption was that the unnamed child died in childbirth, but if that happened wouldn't they have named the child for baptism anyway?

  • Yes, you would think so but I have seen other N/R baptismal records.
