Hi,

My Great, Great Grandfather was James Ryan b. 01 Feb 1832, Dunkerrin, Offaly, Ireland. He married Susan Maher from Kings County, and they came out to Australia.

They had one son, Patrick Ryan (born in Australia), who married Mary Conway from County Clare.

Just wondering if there are any Ryans I am realted to still living in Dunkerrin, Offaly.

Best

  • Hi Chris,

I checked the Irish phone book (118.ie/) and found that there were no Ryans in Dunkerrin I'm afraid.

The marriage record from www.rootsireland.ie/ has little info:

    Date of Marriage:13-Sep-1864
    Parish / District:DUNKERRIN
    County:Co. Offaly
    Husband Name:JamesRyan Address:COORACLEVIN Denomination:Roman Catholic
    Wife SusanMaher Roman Catholic

The baptism cert is on roots; I couldn't find any siblings for him

Mother's surname could be a misspelling or mistranscription; here's the only marriage record from Offaly:

    Date of Marriage:14-Nov-1830

    Parish / District:BANAGHER
    County:Co. Offaly

No Ryans in the relevant Irish Censuses in Offaly but Griffiths Valuation (free at askaboutireland.ie/) has 10 Ryans in Dunkerrin including 4 from Cooraclevin in 1851: John Ryan Tenant; Catherine Ryan Tenant; Catherine Ryan landlord to Bridget Carroll and William Pierce

The Tithe Applotments (also free at titheapplotmentbooks.national archives.ie/) have 10 Ryans in Dunkerrin in 1825
