Devery/Temple/Conran

Roots Ireland has a number of Devery records that you would most likely want to consult in order to further your research.

The baptism record for Catherine Devery is listed below and you will note that her parents are indeed Kieran Devery and Anne Temple.

My wife and I will be in Ireland October 18, 2018 and will be near Clonmacnoise October 19, 2018 and October 20, 2018.  Where would you recommend that we visit to research Conran / Condren family?  

The church in Ballinahown have all the records there in their house (beside the church)

Hi Patrick, Listened to the recording of my grandaunt several times this week.   As I listened again I realized that she mentions "Mary Temple" of Clonmacnoise, not Mary Templeton Mac Noise, as I first thought.   Mary Temple was the first wife of my great-great grandfather, James Condron.   In the recording, my grandaunt mentions that Mary Temple died young and James Condron then married Margaret Coughlin.   I need to do more research, but my guess is that Mary Temple did not bear children.   If that's true, we would still be related via James Condron.  

Do you have a tree on Ancestry.com?   If so, would you be willing to let me view it?  My sister has created our family tree on Ancestry.   It's a public tree called "Condron Family Tree".   If you want to view it and have  trouble getting access, let me know and I'll ask my sister to send you an invitation.   I'll also ask my sister to correct Mary Temple's name, but for now she's on our tree as Mary Templeton Macnoise.    

We also have a Kitty Devery in our tree, on my grandfather's mother's side.    From what we know she was married to Peter Bennett, and would be my great-great-great grandmother.    Peter Bennet and Kitty Devery's daughter was named Mary Bennet.   Mary Bennett married James Shea.  One of their daughters was Ellen Shea.   Ellen Shea married James Condron who were the parents of my paternal grandfather, Martin Condron.  Martin was baptized in the Ballinahown Church mentioned by Geraldine, above.  Would love to hear from you about local resources you found when you visited last year.   My sister and I will be going there at the end of August for 2 weeks.   In the meanwhile, I'm trying to find every possible thing that I can online before we go  so we can make the best use of our time in Ireland.   Looking forward to hearing from you.

Looking back at your posts I realized the Mary Temple you are talking about was married to Kieran Condron, not James Condron and that their son was Kieran Condron, not Martin Condron.   Now I have confused myself, and I'm sorry if I confused you!   There must still be a connection somewhere, but obviously, I need to do more research.   Some time,ago, a man named John Hegarty got in touch with me and gave me some information on the Condrons, including a Kieran Condron.   When I get a chance I will look back at his data to see if that helps explain things for me.   Also, I need to do a timeline of some sort to make sure I'm not mixing up the generations.  At any rate, I look forward to hearing from you about loal places in Ireland where I can do research.   It's great news that the Ballinahown Church allows people to look at their records.   I didn't think they would.   Also, do you know how to find burial records by any chance?   I know my grand-aunt is buried in Clonmacnoise, but I don't know how to find out the location .

p.s.   In speaking to my first cousin Joan (Condron)  Winters the other day, she told me that Marie is one of her DNA matches.   I emailed Marnie to let her know.   Unfortunately, my cousing doesn't have a tree on ancestry.

You are doing a much better job preparing for your visit than I did.  I have a company, myirlelandheritage.com, conducting some additional research for me.  I should have more information next month.  I will let you know.  The records I have indicate that James Conran (Condron) - (born 1812) married Mary Temple (born 1812) in Clonmacnoise on 2/15/1830 and had two children, Kieran (1831) - my grandfather - and John (1833).  I wonder if Mary died during the birth of John and James then married Margaret Coughlin.  Do you know the date of their marriage?  BTW, it is so cool that you have a recording from your great aunt.  That must be a treasure trove of interesting information. I believe the Clonmacnoise site continues to be used as a burial ground and they may have a list of persons buried there.

Hi Patrick, thanks for your quick response!  I listened again to the recording of my grandaunt, and now I think the pieces fit together!!!!  She said that James Condron (Conran) had 2 children with Mary Templeton!!!!  She didn't say what their names were, but now I'm pretty sure that James Condron (Conran) is our common ancestor!!!!   It seems I got mixed up yesterday when I said that Mary Temple married Kieran Condron (Conran), when in fact she married James Condron (Conran) as I originally thought.   I think it's quite likely that Mary died during John's birth or shortly theareafter.   It's making more sense all the time, including that there are no duplicate names in the family.   In other words, the boys in James's second marriage were James and Martin and sons from his first marriage were Kieran and John.   Tomorow, I will try to find the marriage date for James and Mary, and will let you know if I do.   Hopefully I will have good luck!  I have wondered about Kieran Condron's connection to my family for a long time, and maybe now I have an answer!!!!  If I recall correctly he was in the 1901 and 1911 censuses for Clonfinlough.  Have to get ready for guests coming in a half hour, so I'll stop now, but I might stay up all night!!!!

Hi Patrick, Just realized that I mingled 2 different generations by mistake.  Kieran and John would have been a generation older than my grandfather Martin and my granduncle James.   Sorry for mixing things up again.   I hope I can make sense of everything and give you an update tomorrow.  Thanks.  Kathy

Hi Patrick,   I haven't been able to find a marriage record for James Condron and Margaret Coughlin.   The only hope I have is to search  online church records, which could take forever.  What I'm fairly certain about is that my Great-Grandfather, Patrick, was born in 1847 and that he had 6 siblings.  One of his sisters, Maria Condron, was born in 1848.   She moved to the U.S. and became a nun, and we have source info. re: her death.   We also have a marriage record for another sister, Margaret Condron.    My grand-aunt didn't give much detail re: the other 4 siblings.     I hope to find baptism records for them so I can find out their birth years.  My educated guess for now is that James Condron married Margaret Coughlin some time between 1833 and 1847.

The more I look into it, the more I'm convinced that James Condron is our common ancestor, but I guess we need more evidence.  Do you have source records for the birth years of James Condron and Mary Temple?    In listening (once again) to the recording of my grand-aunt, I realized that she states that James Condron and Mary Temple had two sons - which would jibe with your information.   Unfortunately, she doesn't mention their names.  In fact, she doesn't talk about their lives at all, which makes me think that they were raised by Mary Temple's family.   By the way,  I asked my sister to remove Mary Temple from our tree for now.    She had originally listed both wives under the facts for James Condron.. For some reason that led to Mary Temple showing up as James's wife on our tree instead of Margaret Coughlin.   Hopefully she can figure out how to fix the problem.

Hi, I'm researching the Temple family from County Offaly (without much success).  My great grandfather, John Temple, emigrated to the U.S. - - first to Hartford CT, and then settled in Waterbury CT.  We're not sure which part of County Offaly his family came from.

I thought I'd post this marriage record I found;  not sure if it relates to my Temples but may be of interest to someone.  It relates to Patrick Temple who lived in Ontario, Canada - - his father was a Temple and his mother was a Devery.
