    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Michael and Hannah were married July 15, 1875. See transcription of civil record below.  To get a copy of the actual record, you would have to contact the General Register Office. I recommend you wait for the Irish government to add the images for marriages back to 1864. Right now they only have images 1882 on.

Here are Michael and Hannah in the 1901 census. I assume Hannah understated her age.

  • Hi John,

Noreen here from Ballingarry - your post has been moved to the Ballingarry Slieveardagh site in Co. Tipperary - where Hannah Purcell's family were from. It can be confusing when there are so many Ballingarrys!

I'll start looking into this for you. Its interesting that Michael O'Connor was in the RIC as there are records that might hold family information, that I can access. What have you got so far? Is it just the Purcells you are interested in?

    Regards

    Noreen

Hello Noreen    My grandfather was in Nenagh and then around 1880 was posted to Schull. I visited the police barracks where the family lived in Schull but it was demolished in 2004. His RIC No. was 24536    Michael O'Connors wife Hannah(nee Purcell) 1856-1928 was a Church organist.   Hannah's brother Philip I know nothing about aside from the dates 1850-1916. I think he died in West Derby, Liverpool.  His sister Margaret Purcell was a teacher and a Nun, joining the order of Jesus and Mary. The order sent her to India and then Canada before taking a post as head of a girls school in Ipswich. Her neice Margaret (Rita) O'Connor was in that school after leaving Schull. Rita was my grandmother. Margaret Purcell took a bit of finding as she took the name of Francis de Sales as a Nun. She lived 1853-1913 and died in a convent in Willesdon, N London

I know that Hannah Purcell's parents were Philip Purcell 1800-1886 and his wife lived from1815-1887

I thank you for offering your help. The best of luck!
