    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The 1821 census was a great find. The townland name evolved into Barlahan. The RC parish would be Kinnitty and records start in 1833. See link below. I also found the 1853 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for the parish. There is an Ellen and Daniel in Barlahan. Ellen is likely Eleanor and the widow of John and Daniel is likely the married son of Michael. The 1901 census for Barlahan shows two Carroll households. I'm sure they are descendants of the 1821 Carrolls.

  • Thank you so much for the information.  I am researching my great grandfather Patrick Carroll - born to Daniel Carroll and Margaret Keating in 1871.  Looking for any related Carrolls that may still be in the area.   I apologize I cannot read the baptism records you sent as they are very blurred.   Thanks again.

Roots Ireland had four baptismal records for Carroll children with parents Daniel Carroll and Mary or Margaret Keating in Kilcolman RC parish not far from Kinnitty RC parish which would be the RC parish for Letterluna. Now this may be a completely different family. They had Ellen 1868 Kate 1871 John 1873 Mary 1875 but no Patrick  The family lived in Newhall townland in Ettagh civil parish.  Did Patrick have siblings? I listed the transcription for Mary's record below.

I think the record you have is for a Patrick Carroll in Co. Kilkenny.

  • Thank you Roger!  Do you have any more information tracing back or should I go to the Urlingford Parish District Message Board?

No need to post in Urlingford since all messages end up on the main message board. Urlingford Kilkenny does not border Co. Offaly. Carroll was a very common surname so I'm not sure that this record ties to your family.
