James William MOORE was born in Drumquin, Tyrone in 1853. His parents were James MOORE & Jane GIVENS. They were living in the townland of Drumrawn when married in 1852. They all - including sister Jane born 1855 - sailed aboard ship 'Maitland' to Sydney Australia later that year.

In Australia, James Snr was a farmer at LLandilo, on the outskirts of Sydney NSW,  working for countryman, John HARRIS before getting his own farm there & then later, Windsor NSW.

James William married Annie Harriet RANSLEY & they had 12 children. He was a wood merchant & then owned a local store in St Marys, at the foot of the Blue Mountains west of Sydney. His siter Jane married George WHITE in Penrith, nearby.

My grandfather William MOORE was James'  yougest brother.

  • Hello,

Do you know if this James is related to the Moores from Drumquin area (Drumrawn and Drumbarley)?

I have an Arthur Moore, married 1859 to a Margaret Moore.

James father is John and Margarets parents Arthur Moore & Mary Simpson.

    Does this ring any bells?

  • Good to hear of another MOORE researcher from the Drumquin area! I am sure some of them must have been related!

PRONI record - Probate granted 1728 for James MOORE of Drumarn, Tyrone -it is thought Drumarn was the later namned Drumrawn.

This is where Arthur MOORE is in Griffiths records & where my James MOORE (born 1828) was living when he married in 1852.

Could they have been cousins? Arthur's father John & James' father James, brothers? Or was James & Mary related?

I wonder if William MOORE (father James) who married Eliza/ Bessie CONDY/COUNDY on 10 Nov 1859 in East Langfield.

I do know my James (b 1828)'s sister was Mary MOORE (born 1829) married Thomas McGAHY on 10 Oct 1849 & moved to Glasgow, Scotland.

They had 7 children there. After Thomas died she married Neil McDONALD in 1882 then died in Glasgow in 1908.

Arthur, Robert & Thomas are not common Christian names in our MOORE line.
