Kane/Grealy/Delaney (or Devaney)

The Tuam RC records go way back and are included on Roots Ireland. However, when I search for the marriage or the baptismal record, I get no record. here is a link to the parish register for Tuam http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/1082   Many immigrants would say they were from the nearest large town rather than the specific townland. I'm wondering if Michael was from a nearby parish that does not have records back to the late 1820s/1830s. For example, Killereran to the southeast has records starting in the 1870s.Kilconly parish to the west of Tuam also has records starting in the 1870s. 

I assume Devaney is the surname for the cousins?

I did not find a Timothy Kane in the 1855 Griffiths in the general Tuam area.

Any other family clues?

Have you considered autosomal DNA testing?

Your family connection is recorded in Tuam Records. Thaddeus Keane & Winifred Grealy have the following children listed: 

James baptised 8th October 1833 (Died young)

James baptised 5th June 1936

Bridget 1st November 1839

Delaney / Devanney are also Tuam related surnames. What information do you have for these families. It may be possible to get general area as most married locally?

So many thanks for your information. Is there a baptism for Michael or Timothy Kane/Keane for the same parents? Also would Thaddeus be an Irish form of Timothy?

I believe the two James' and Bridget are my Great Grandfather's siblings. Michael Kane, my Great Grandfather, emigrated to Australia around 1852 on the Earl of Elgin with some of his cousins.

Delaney/Devaney, was the maiden name of Michael's maternal grandmother.

Yes, Timothy / Thaddeus / Thady are various versions of name.

There are no further birth records for family in Tuam.

What are names of cousins you mention?

Do you have a copy of document for Delaney / Devaney record?

Once again many thanks for your information.

I believe the cousins who emigrated with my Great Grandfather were as follows:

Darby Grealy, aged 22, Patrick Grealy, aged 18, and Mary Grealy, aged 20, from Annaghdown. Parents were Patrick and Ellen Grealy. I believe Patrick Grealy was my Great, Great Grandmother's brother.

James Devaney, aged 19,  and Hanora Devaney aged 22 from Cloonlinana. I think their parents were Michael and Hanora Devaney. I believe Hanora was Winifred Grealey's sister.

Patrick O'Brien aged 19 from. I believe his parents were John and Catherine O'Brien, Catherine was Winifred Grealy's sister.

John O'Neal aged 20 from Woodpark. I believe his parents were William and Sarah O'Neal, Sarah was Winifred Grealy's sister. 

On another subject.  The 1876 death certificate of my Great, Great Grandmother Winifred Cain (nee Grealy), shows her parents as Darby Grealy, farmer and Winifred Grealy (nee Delaney). The certificate shows that she had been married twice. First husband unknown, second husband Michael Kane to whom she was married for 20 years. The children were shown as Michael aged 44 or 46, James deceased, James (again) deceased, Bridget deceased and Timothy deceased. Therefore all of the children except Michael died before 1876. Winifred had been in Victoria, Australia for 13 years, therefore emigrated approximately 1863.

Question - who could have been Winifred's first husband? Was my Great Grandfather Michael Kane, the child of Winifred's first marriage?? The plot thickens!!!

Coming a bit late to this - I see that there is a baptism in the Tuam records for a 'Michael Keane' born in Tuam to a father 'Timothy Keane' and a mother 'Winifred Grealy'. Rootsireland says 30th March 1830 but I can't see it on the digitised NLI records HERE (though the zoom won't work on m PC so perhaps that's why, but have a look). If Timothy and Winifred married in c.1828 then this baptism would fit as a potential and leave Michael in his 20s when he departed Ireland.
