I am trying to find out where my 2nd and 3rd great grandfathers were born. They both had the name John Grimes. The 3rd great grandfather was born around 1820? My 2nd great grandfather was born 1848. On the English census in Leicester dated the year 1851 they had them come from ballyglaf which I think should be ballyglass. Others in the household came from ballyglass. There was an m next to ballyglaf which I think means Mayo. John Grimes 1820 may have married a Mary Dixon/Dickson in Ireland.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I checked on Roots Ireland and there were no John Grimes baptismal records in Mayo with a father John. Possibly the church of baptism does not have records back to the late 1840s. I also could not find a marriage record.
By the way, there are eleven Ballyglass townlands in Co. Mayo.

Roger has mentioned that there are numerous Ballyglasses in Mayo. The Grimes were sharing a house with the Prendergasts of Ballyglass in Leicester in the 1851 census. I see Prendergasts in Ballyglass, parish of Crossboyne, in the Irish tithe applotment records for 1842. That could be a clue as to which Ballyglass to focus on. Have a look at Crossboyne parish records to see if any Grimes show up.
