  • Wendy:

    Welcome back!

We do not have a parish liaison in Bansha Kilmoyler parish. I checked the online Irish phone book and did not see any Tully or McCarthy entries around Bansha. Hopefully, someone will see your post and comment. Thanks!

  • Hi Wendy,

I have just returned from a trip to Ireland and were visiting DNA-related people in Bansha.  My daughter and I learned just how close the townlands are, even if you think they look far apart on a map, so Patrick McCarthy who doesn't seen to have lived nearby could have.  Also, people come from various places to attend church or go to markets in various areas so even though the parties to a marriage can seem to have lived far apart, often they didn't.

I did find a civil birth record for a Bridget Tully born 13 March 1907 and registered 28 March 1907 with an address "Bansha" in the Parish/District Bansha, Co. Tipperary, father William Tully and Mother Mary Walsh.  Informant was Mary Tully, the mother.

Do you have a birth year for Patrick McCarthy, his parents names, marriage year for them.  A lot of marriage records do not go past the 1800s.

  • HI

I  am one of the Ireland reaching out volunteers covering this area but for some reason am only recieving notification that you posted now - apologies

Bridget Tully & Patrick McCarthy were married 29 Jan 1930 in Bansha church by Fr John Murphy PP witnesses Kitty Tully & Ernest McCarthy . Bridget's father was William address Bansha , Patrick's Michael his address at time of marriage was Tipperary - usually meaning the town .

Cathy posted Bridget's birth details above - siblings include Catherine 11 Apr 1911, Margaret 27 July 1907 , All born Babsha and a Mary 30 May 1905 born Brodeen Tipperary town .

William Tully & Mary Walsh were married in St Munchin's Limerick City 10 Jan 1904 by JR Shanahan PP witnesses Michael Moran & kate Walsh . William's father is listed as Michael a farmer still alive and Mary's William , alive . Her address Castle view Gardens his St John's ..

The 1911 census states that William Tully & Mary were both born in Tipperary

There was a William Tully born in Donohill 9 April 1878 to Michael Tully & Bidget Neill . As the name Tully is rare in Tipperary - this is probably him

  • Thank you so much
This is definitely my family , I'm so excited that you have found them , I have three Aunties who are still alive, who will be very interested in your findings . As they get older the date's become muddled, so now I can let them know.
Thank you again for your research into my family much appreciated
Kindest regards Wendy granddaughter of Bridget and Patrick McCarthy .

  • Happy to help Wendy

I suggest you browse the parish registers for Annacarty http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0238 to find further Tully's . It looks like they did not stay in  that area for long

There was a Mary Tully who died in Bansha 3 Jan 1926 aged 48 & a William Tully died  Dec 1949 age 72  . His address was given as Garnacanty which is on the Dundrum side of Tipperary town .

The McCarthy of Tipperary town will be more difficult to trace without parents names . There are several McCarthy families . Some were there for generations others originally  from Limerick and Cashel areas ..

Good luck with your continued  research
