I am a direct descendant of William McKeogh and Mary Hayes who were married 7 Nov 1827 in Youghalarra.  They were Roman Catholic.  They had 9 children John b 1830, Cornelius b 1832, Bridget b 1833, Henora b 1837, Winifred b 1840, Timothy b 1835, William b 1843, Mary b 1845 and James b 1847.  The family lived in Pallasmore Townland until 1857 when McKeogh and at least two of the children, Mary and James, emigrated to the US (Buffalo, New York).  Griffiths Land Valuation 1848-50 shows McKeogh leased parcels #14 and #33 in Pallasmore.  Our sources are family records, RootsIreland, aboutIreland.ie, and we have a public tree, Keogh Family tree on Ancestry.com administered by Michael Keogh (mikeogh).  William McKeogh and Mary Hayes are my great great grandparents.  We are looking for living relatives who are descendants.  We are also looking to identify the specific land parcels that the McKeoghs occupied or farmed.  We will be visiting Youghalarra (Nenagh) in mid-September 2016 and we want to meet relatives and stand on the land of the McKeogh family roots.  To share a pint would be my honor. Mike Keogh

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I checked the online Irish phone book http://www.eirphonebook.ie/#   and there were 20 Keoghs listed in Tipperary including some near Nenagh. Make sure you use the Residential Tab.

We do not have a parish liaison for Youghalarra parish but we do have one for Nenagh. I will send an e-mail to alert our parish liaison.

If you have not heard back by the end of the week, let me know and I will alert our HQ. A lot of our parish liaisons do not check their e-mails on the site.

    Hi. Mike,

I passed on info. to Clare for you and here's some more in 'Ireland's Births & Baptisms 1620-1881 there's a Timothy McKeogh married to Judith Lyons with a son Michael McKeogh, who was christened in Silvermines Church in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary on August 25th , 1874. Also a Timothy McKeogh married to Kate O'Brien with a son Pat McKeogh who was born October 3rd, 1879 in Portroe, Nenagh (Source Ireland's Births & Baptisms 1620-1881).

In ' Ireland Tithe Applotment Books (1814-1855) I have a Tax-Assessment for McKeogh in 1824 in the Townland of Pallisbeg,Parish Youghalarra, County Tipperary. Also Tax Assessment for McKeogh Townland Garronmore, Parish Youghalarra, County Tipperary. There is a Tax Assessment for Cornelius McKeogh in 1826 for the Townland of Boher Parish Kilmastulla, this Cornelius could be a brother of William McKeogh who married Mary Hayes. Also Tax Assessment for Michael McKeogh 1826 Townland Boher Parish Kilmastulla County Tipperary. I have uploaded 3 documents for you to look at.

                                                                   Regards,

                                                                                 John Kelly.

  • John, Wow! Thank you.  This certainly is a lot of information.  Unfortunately, the three documents you scanned in are difficult to read.  When we visit Nenagh next month do you think it would be possible for us to view them in person?  Our research has focused on Pallasmore Townland and we are unfamiliar with the other townlands you mention.  I think one of the first things we will need to do when we arrive in Nenagh is to obtain a good local map.  In your notes to us the first two times you mention McKeogh, are you referring to William McKeogh?  If there is additional information you can supply, we are more that grateful.  We look forward to meet you if at all possible.  We are excited because it looks like you have found more of my ancestors.  How do we go about connecting a name in the phone book back 170 years to know they are related to my great-great-grandfather?  Are you at all familiar with the Griffiths Land Valuation 1848 -1850?  We want to know the locations of plots #14 and #33 in Pallasmore Townland.  Regards Mike

  • Mike , all the info. you have received should be enough to help you find your relations. If you need any more assistance when you get to Nenagh get in touch with Nora O'Meara in the local genealogical Centre . Show her the info you have and she'll put you in touch with the relevant people.
    Regards,
