Hello.
I am looking for any information on the baptism and parents/ancestors of William Nolan and his father James.
He was born around 1861 and enlisted in the Army in England in 1882,His Army records give Dunkerrin, Roscrea as his place of birth.
He married Margaret Kelly in Woolwich in 1893 and provides his father's name as James Nolan (Deceased).
He and his family then settled in Woolwich London and he is present on 1901 and 1911 census there.
Any help very gratefully received.
Thank you in advance
Natalie Nolan

Hi Natalie . .
Welcome to Roscrea,Co.Tipperary . . .
Roscrea was the postal district . . which at one time . . stretched over County boundries of Tipperary,Offaly (Kings) and Laoise ( Queen's) . . . Dunkerrin is registered historically as King's County (Offaly) . . .
I have searched . . online . . the most likely places to find your Nolan family . . .
The only success . . so far . . is mention of a James Nolan . . in Griffiths Valuation (1848-1864) in Franckfort area . .
This would seem to point to Dunkerrin . . district . . as the primary location of the family . .
There is an Ireland Reaching Out member for Dunkerrin . . whom I will alert . . and bring your query to their attention . .

Hi Natalie
my name is dolores whytr from Dunkerrin parish which is on the Tipperary /Offaly border.
i have checked the Parish records for Dunkerrin and here under is the information which I think may be your ancestor William Nolan as follows
father James Nolan married Mary Rourke ( I have no date of their marriage as they didn't get married in Dunkerrin parish. Mary Rourke may be from a neighbouring parish. They lived in Summerhill a towns land near Dunkerrin.
Their family is as follows
Mary (baptised 4/10/1855)
William (baptised 23/2/1858)
Thomas (baptised 22/1/1861)
James (baptised 20/1/1863
patrick(baptised 8/6/1868)
edward (baptised 31/1/1873
thomas and Edward Nolan got married and I have details of Thomas and edward's family. There are descendants of Thomas (grandchildren and great grandchildren) still living in and around summerhill..
James Nolan died on 14 December 1892 aged 75 (old age is given as cause of death)
if you wish to email me further on my own email please do at wdobrienwhyte@eircom.net and I can give you further details. Also if you have any further information on William that I could check out here to make sure it is the same family but the Parish records I have tally with your details, and there is no other
best regards

Hi Dolores,
Thank you so much for taking the time to research this for me. My husband is the great grandson of William and has always wanted to know more but I have struggled a bit with working out the family tree!
Thank you again
