Hello all,
My name is Margaret Taylor from Brisbane, Australia. I'm trying to find information about the above families from Gort. Martin Kenny and Mary Forde would have been married around 1820 or so. They had a daughter Catherine Kenny around 1824; her year of birth is calculated from her age at death: she died in Australia in 1872 aged 48 and was a widow at the time of her death. She immigrated around 1865 though I can't find her immigration records. She was my gg-grandmother. At the time of her death Catherine was living with her daughter, Mary-Anne Ryan (Nee Martin) and Mary-Anne's husband, John Ryan at a farm near Mackay in Queensland, Australia. The name of the farm was Ballygegan Farm. I believe there is or was a Ballygegen house in or near Gort, but don't know what connection the family may have had with that place. Catherine married James Martin in Gort? around 1848 and they lived in Loughrea in Church Lane. James was an ironmonger and hardwareman there. Mary-Anne married John Ryan in 1867 in Mackay. I believe that the whole family migrated to Australia around 1865 and that this might have happened perhaps after the death of James Martin, though this is guess-work as I cannot find records of any other members of the family in Australia.
I I would love to know more about both families if there are any records about them still available. Thanks for any help. :)
Cheers, Margaret
