I am searching for information about my paternal grandfather William George Crowley who left Clogheen in 1900. His Father was `a souter` ( stitcher ) or cobbler. He came to England as an 18 year old and joined The Manchester Regiment. He went back to Ireland in 1903 and married my grandmother Annie Emily Murphy in St Colman`s Cathedral, Cork. They lived in Salford Manchester after he left the army. Annie died in 1924 of tb , William died in 1948. My father was born in Salford in 1918, I was born in 1944.

Joseph:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Below is the 1883 civil birth record for William. He also had three siblings that I could identify: John 1881 Thomas 1885 and Mary 1887. I did not find the Crowleys in the 1901 census. Did the entriee family move to England in 1901? Thomas and Catherine were married in 1878. See record below which includes the names of the fathers of the bride and groom.
Let me know if you have any questions.

To complete my reply to you Roger and answer your question. As far as I know William travelled to Waterford to enlist in The Manchester Regiment on 1st January 1900. I do not know anything about the rest of his family except the names of the 3 siblings and the father in law that you told me about.
Geoffrey W Crowley
