    Welcome to ireland Reaching Out!

I was able to locate a transcription of the 1876 civil marriage for Patrick and Winifred and the Glynns did live in Liskeevey which is a townland and civil parish and is northeast of Tuam. I also found the 1901 census record for Michael and his family. The townland was incorrectly shown as Liskeeny. The 1911 census is also below.

Thankyou for the offer,I would be most appreciative if you could check out the graveyard for me.

I am hoping to travel to Ireland and hopefully have a good look around and do some research at the same time.

  • Hi Mike

Haven't forgotten about you - the graveyard is not yet indexed or transcribed (and I have been in the UK) so Friday is looking like the day for my trip as I will have a little more time to look around - will let you know

    Hi Mike

Attached are photos of the only two Glynn headstones I found in Lyskeevey graveyard. The oldest one is the first headstone erected in the graveyard and belongs to the man who built the wall around the graveyard. It was hard to read but it refers to a Thomas Glynn who died I think in 1930 (difficult to make out). I spoke to the caretaker and he said that the William mentioned in the newer one was the last Glynn from that family and was unmarried.

    Best wishes

    Hi Mike,

I know this is an old post but hopefully you will see this.   I am also researching my Glynn family from Galway. I have no idea if we are related but it is interesting you are in Australia as I was told my great great uncles went there to a family member.  I know there are lots of Glynns in both Ireland and Australia but we might get lucky lol.   Thomas Glynn is well known for being one of the Sydney 12 - you can find a lot of references to him online.  He joined the Boer War from Australia where he had gone to stay with family.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fBNaOPlqeE  is a link to a youtube video all about his life.  The guy behind the video is currently in Melbourne doing more research.    Tom Glynn had a half brother Martin Glynn who died in ww1. I have been in contact with his nephew only this past month.   Anyway I will stop rambling just in case you never see this message lol. Take care Rachel

My great grandmother was a Mary Glynn born in 1826 and raised in Oranmore, Co Galway.  She married a Patt McGrath in Oranmore in 1845 and moved to USA in 1847.  Patt died and she married my great grandfather in PA sometime around 1849.  I have an entire Glynn family tree in Oranmore and there is a Glynn cemetery there.  I have some Glynn's that stayed, some came to USA and some went to Australia.  I think that this is another Glynn family but somewhere in the past, they are probably related.  There was another Mary Glynn born in Oranmore in 1862 and died in Ballyloughaun, Co Galway in 1939.  You can look at the Castlegar Catholic Church records for this Glynn family.   Have you searched "www.registers.nli.ie" for Catholic diocese birth, marriage, death records.
