Once again I am hoping that I can get a response on my relatives that were member of the Clonfert Church

Here is the information that I have and I  hope that some one can help me find information about everyone I have included below

Edward (Ned) Redden

Birth 1895 Ballynakill, Clonfert, Galway, Ireland

Death 14 Mar 1967 Ballynakill Eyrecourt (Clonfert), Galway and is buried in the Clonfert Cemetery.

Married Ellen (Lillie) Comerford (Redden) , December 1916 B. Unknown D. 22 May 1987 Ballynakill Eyrecourt (Clonfert), Galway, Ireland and is buried in the Clonfert Cemetery.

A funeral mass for Ned and Ellen (Lillie) were held at the Clonfert Church

Ned was the son of Michael Redden of Muingbaun, Kilquain, Galway, Ireland B. Abt. 1860 and Bridget Pender (s) of Ballynakill, Clonfert, Galway, Ireland B. abt. 1855. Ned had seven siblings:

Patrick Francis (died 1918 in NYC of the Spanish Flu)

Mary (died 1877 at birth or soon thereafter)

Thomas Patrick (Died 1916 in NYC Causes Unknown)

John Michael (Died 1941 in Bronx, NY of Stomach Cancer)

Michael (Died 1959 in Skerries, Dublin of Natural Causes)

Mary Bridget ( Died in Clonfert 1901-1911 no records exist of her demise)

Ned and Lillie had eight children they are as follows:

Patrick Redden B. Mar 1924 Ballynakill, Clonfert, Galway, Ireland D. England 30 Oct 1973 and is buried in the Clonfert Cemetery. His funeral mass was held at the Clonfert Church. Records indicate he was  married in England but I do not have any details on his family.

Margaret Redden B. December 1920  Ballynakill, Clonfert, Galway, Ireland D. 1 Nov 1992 Ballynakill Eyrecourt (Clonfert), Galway, Ireland and is buried in the Clonfert Cemetery. Her funeral mass was held at the Clonfert Church. My Records indicate she married a Les Boldon.

John Joe Redden B. 1928 Ballynakill, Clonfert, Galway, Ireland D. 10th October 2000 Ballynakill Eyrecourt (Clonfert), Galway, Ireland and is buried in the Clonfert Cemetery. His funeral mass was held at the Clonfert Church. Records indicate he was married to Margaret Redden Maiden name unknown, they had no children I am aware of at this present time.

Elizabeth Redden B. December 1929 Ballynakill, Clonfert, Galway, Ireland. All indication is that she is still with us but  she would now be 77. Not knowing if she ever married my research has reached a brick wall. I assume that she would have married in her home church at Clonfert.

Nellie Redden B. December 1931 Ballynakill, Clonfert, Galway, Ireland. All indication is that she is still with us but  she would now be 75. Again not knowing if she ever married my research has reached a brick wall. I also assume that she would have married in her home church at Clonfert.

Christina Redden B. Mar 1933 Ballynakill, Clonfert, Galway, Ireland. All indication is that she is still with us but  she would now be 73. Again not knowing if she ever married my research has reached a brick wall. I also assume that she would have married in her home church at Clonfert.

Eamon Redden B. 12 Jul 1934 Ballynakill, Clonfert, Galway, Ireland D. 15 July 1987 Manchester, Lancashire, England and is buried in the Clonfert Cemetery. His funeral mass was held at the Clonfert Church. Records indicate he was  not married.

Philip Redden B 1935 Ballynakill, Clonfert, Galway, Ireland D. 15 November 1970 in England and is buried in the Clonfert Cemetery. His funeral mass was held at the Clonfert Church. Records indicate he was  not married.

I am trying to find any or all information I can on all of my relatives listed above. Apparently there no records available from the National Library of Ireland Parish Registers for the Clonfert Church. The NLI records only contain registers up to 1881 and it has been extremely helpful in finding all of my Cummiskey Relatives in Longford. Also since my Cousin Eileen is the niece of Archdeacon John Corkery 1918-1995, Father allowed her to view the registers in the parish safe. The rest of the registers are still maintained at the local Church. Several of my family members were in Ireland this November past but decided met with the living decedents and there just was not enough time to back to Galway again. Most of the records I presently have are from Irish Civil Registrations of Birth, Marriage and Death and clippings from the various Galway Newspapers. I did go to see the Mormons and went through their microfilm for what they have on Clonfert but the film was of such poor quality it was just unreadable.  Can you help?

    Welcome back!

The civil index records are available thru 1958. I looked for marriage index records for Reddens in the Portumna civil registration district and there were no records for an Elizabeth, Nellie or Christina Redden. Also no death index records for those three names. The only Irish phone books does not show any Redden records in Galway.

Have you contacted the local church?

We don't have a parish liaison in Eyrecourt/Clonfert but I have alerted our HQ staff of your message.

  • Roger,

At one point Christie Cuniff was the parish coordinator. He lived next door to Margaret Redden in Ballinakill Eyrecourt. He has some graveyard photos and other documentation he sent to me before he became the coordinator but unfortunately my computer was hacked and I lost everything. Of course i have learned my lesson from that and now store everything on an external drive. He promised to resend them if he can find them on his computer but that never happened. Since Christie's expertice is in archeology and not genealogy he has moved on to new projects more in line with his education.. Since I an located in the United States it is difficult for me to make contact with the local church. As I have learned over several years the Redden's appear to be very private people and do not have a desire to share family history.Very little shows up in print and the Civil registration rules for filing births, marriage and deaths may not have been followed according to Hoyle. If you have a contact at the Clonert Church I would follow up directly

Also I had been in contact with a Pat Madden in Tiranascragh who said he had information in regard to Michael Redden 1860-1934 and that he would send it to me but alas that did not come to fruition. He also said an Annie Farrell was born a Redden was the person that gave him the documents

Hence you can see my frustration
