I am looking for information on my second great grandpa. His name was James Walsh, born between 1863-1865 in Aghamore. He immigrated to Lancashire, England before 1886. He married Ann Vaughan in 1886 in St. Marie's Catholic Church in Bury, Lancashire, England at the age of 21 years old. His father was Martin Walsh but his mother is unknown. On the 1911 UK Census he states his place of birth was Aghamore, Mayo, Ireland.
I did DNA last year and found someone that believe we are related to Horkan's that were in County Mayo in Knock and Swinford. I also matched the surname Gavaghan.
I really would like any help. I have looked in the parish records and in the civil registration but have not found proof of James' birth or other family members. My husband and I will be visiting for a few days in May and I would like to find a connection before I go or know where to research. I do not know if James' parents immigrated with him. I will be in England in May as well looking at the St. Marie's records.
Any help would be welcome!!

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Baptismal records for Aghamore RC parish start in June 1864 so I think it is likely that he was born and baptized before June 1864. There are a number of Walsh children baptized in Aghamore where the father was Martin. Are you aware of any younger siblings of James?

I don't know any for sure but on his marriage record there was a John Walsh. There was also a Bridget Mannion but there is no guarantee she came from Aghamore.

Danielle,
Do you have any idea if your gggrandfather had a brother Martin? I am related by marriage to a Martin Walsh born in Aghamore in 1866. He married my grandfather Patrick Logan's sister Winifred. They had 5 children, 2 daughters Delia and Ellen emigrated to the US in New York CIty and 3 sons that stayed in Ireland, John, Thomas and Patrick.
I do not have informaiton on Martin's family except for his wife's family. I was in Aghamore in the summer of 2019 and learned that there are still Walsh descedants in the area. Winifred Logan Walsh is buied in the old section of Aghamore cemetery. I was unable to find a headstone for her husband Martin. I tried to insert hers but ws unable.
The Logan's were in Lismmegaun, Aghamore. If you think there maybe a connection let me know and good luck.

Since my original post I also went to Aghamore. I also discovered through DNA that my James Walsh's parents were Martin Walsh and Bridget Harken/Horkan. He did have younger siblings: John, Winifred, Elizabeth (she stayed), Mary, and Sarah. Winifred, Mary, and Sarah emigrated to St. Louis. I believe John followed his brother to England.
My Walsh's were in Ballynaclougha, Aghamore. Elizabeth's family stayed on the land Martin owned. Her family is buried in the new part of the cemetery.
There is a possibility that Martin is related. They are not brothers, I don't think. Do you know the parents of Martin?
