Anne Connelly was born in 1833 in Tuam, (supposedly) and married Joseph Holland in Sydney in 1852. I have not been able to find any emigration records in Australia. The wedding notice in The Sydney Morning Herald on 6 October 1852, stated that she was the only daughter of James Connelly, County Galway. Grateful for any assistance on name of mother or siblings or anything other information. (Anne's Marriage certificate states her name as 'Donolly' but this is incorrect).

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched Roots Ireland from 1823-1843 and did not find an Anne Connelly or variant baptismal record with a father James. Also did not find any Connelly children with a father James in Tuam records. Here is the link to the parish register if you want to review.  http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/1082

You may want to consider autosomal DNA testing. Possibly you may match someone who has more info on the Connelly family.

  • Roger, thank you for your effort. I don't know who first suggested that Anne was born in Tuam. I have no proof of where that idea came from. I don't quite understand all the different counties, townlands, diocese and parishes in Ireland. Perhaps its a different place altogether.

  • If Anne Connelly was married in an Anglican Church (Parish of St James, County of Cumberland, Sydney by Banns) - would that rule out her being a Roman Catholic?

  • Not necessarily. She may have been RC in Ireland and converted in Australia.
