Darcy Family of Urard

Patrick Darcy married Mary Cormack in 1869. A transcription of the civil record is below and it includes the names of the fathere of the bride and groom. The bride and groom were both from Urard. I also located two possible civl marriage index records for a Bridget Darcy in 1920 and 1922. You would have to get copies of the records to determine if either was for your Bridget. Finally, it appears Patrick died in 1917. I'm having difficulties getting the index record due to systems issues on Find My Past.ie

Roger, Thank you very much for your help. I did have the death certificate index for Patrick Darcy but I do not have copies of the certificate. I have read that the marriage certificates are a wealth of information because they allow one to understand that mother and father of the bride and groom but that sometimes all the inforamtion is not filled in. Patrick and Mary's first child was named Margaret, but the next born who was the first son was named Thomas (which seems to fit the traditional naming conventions back then) and the next born daughter was named Mary. So is it likely in your expert opinion that Mary Purcell was likely the wife of Thomas Darcy? (father of Patrick Darcy). Also I think Fennor is a civil parish, is Gotnahoe the Catholic parish for Urard?

Next question for you is what is your advise on how to acquire photcopies of these certificates? I have found various online order forms but I hate providing my credit card number.

I know these things take time, and I plan on visiting Ireland in 2017, but here are my goals and any advise you cn provide to get me there I appreciate:

1 - Locate Bridget Darcy and any descendents hoping to find a living descendent(s)

2- Locate Patrick Darcy and Mary Cormack Darcy gravesites (if they exist) or any other family/relatives

3- Locate House #6 in Urard or plot of land that it once stood on

Of course there are other goals. I know you probably get lots of questions and can't spend much of your time on any one person's requersts. Anything you can provide (even suggestions about paid assistance) is very much appreciated.

Here is the process for getting copies of BDM records from the General Register Office. Go to this link. Print out the appropriate form. Fill out the form to the best of your ability and include info from index record: quarter/year of event, registration district and volume and page number. Make sure you check the box for copy only. A copy of each record costs around 4 euros. You have to mail the request to GRO (address is provided when you print the form) but you can aks GRO to e-mail the copy back. I use a credit card number and don't have any issues.

Gortnahoe is the RC parish for Fennor civil parish.

Civil marriage records only show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom. Pre-1864 church marriage records don't show any parents names.

If traditional naming patterns were followed then the wife of Thomas Darcy was likely Mary. However, Mary Purcell was a witness to the wedding. She may have been a cousin of married sister or friend but not likely the mother.

Regarding gravesites, you can contact the Gortnahoe church and/or search for cemeteries online.  You may not find headstones unless the family paid to put them up.

The house numbering scheme for the 1901 and 1911 censuses is not what you think. RIC constables collected the census forms and made sure they were filled out correctly. They would come into a townland like Urard which had 35 houses in 1901. The first house they visited was house 1 on the return, 2nd house was house 2, etc.
