Season's Greetings from South Africa! This is my second posting on the same topic - and hoping for a different outcome! I am looking for information on Charles Daly , born on 17th March 1832 in Gort County Galway. He emigrated to South Africa in 1848/1849. His father's name on his death certificate is listed as Martin. His father apparently was a bailiff in the employ of Earl Clanricarde. it has been mooted from another side of the family, that Charled may have been born 'O'Hanlon' and changed his name during the troubles. I would be thrilled to hear something concrete about his early history. Thanks Flick Willmore

I have been searching for Nolan/Glynn families of late, and found of interest that a John Nolan and Ellen DALY had a son James in Gort in 1869. In 1832, Gort was separate Parish's of Kiltartan and Kilmacdaugh, which merged to form Gort in 1854, after the great Famine. This Ellen may not be related to your old Charles really, but may give you a hint as to family. I looked at DALY whilst I was searching for my family over the past few days.
Under Irish Name searches, I see this William Daly below, also being sought and that he also went to South Africa. Could he be connected to Charles ? Once in another country, others often followed. There is an email address attached you could try.
In 1832 from RootsIreland, the only DALY's in 1832 I saw were:

ViewChurch BaptismDalyChas.1832Co. LimerickDALY - (William DALY born 1799 Ballinasloe, Galway, Connaught County. Died in Cape Town 22/06/1866 Cape Town South Africa. Married Barbara Magdalena CROESER 24 November 1833. Searching for the names DOB etc of his ancestors, he is my ancestor on my Grand mothers side.), Patrick Gallagher Russell, xyq82@dial.pipex.com
I also could'nt see any link to Hanlon or O'Hanlon. But I'm not an expert on Irish research, place names, Parish's and Townlands etc. Someone else may be able to assist. You could do your DNA, be patient and see if a match shows up. I did mine via Ancestry, but there are two other companies, FTdna and 23and Me.
