Trying to narrow down to which county. So far potential leads are Lismore And Tallow. Since my 3X GF was John Murray, he has been quite difficult to track down. So far I Do not have any Murray close DNA matches, yet I do with a surname of Hunter. So far we have no genealogical history.
Thanks and regards,
Michael J. Murray

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Murray is a very common surname and is found in every county in Ireland. Do you have an idea of his approximate year of birth?

  • Thank you Roger for the response.  My 3 times GF John was born around 1839.  I have him as having 3 children in Waterford.  My 2 times grandfather John Henry born 12/03/1868, Patrick born around 1870 and Tillie born around 1885.

    Thanks and regards,

    Michael

Roots Ireland has 10 John Murray baptismal records in Co. Waterford 1838-1840 but none are in Lismore RC parish.

Thank you Roger,  I was hoping it was Lismore.  It looks like I need to identify where my 2nd GF John Henry Murray was born in Waterford.  I understand that was on December 3, 1866.  He emigrated to the United States and married in 1893.  I do not have any information about siblings or mother just that his father was John Murray.

This was the only John Murray baptismal record in Lismore with father John.

  • Micheal,  Reading your post with great interest as there are many similarities to my Murrays   My  great grandfather, John Henry Murray born 1861 in Wayne county, New York. His brother was Micheal J. born about 1840 and a sister Bridget born about 1843 both in Ireland.  My GG grandfather was John Murray born about 1822 County Waterford. His wife was Bridget Power born in Ireland.  They may have married in Ireland or New York.  I’m pretty sure Bridget was his 2nd wife. From records I have found on Find My Past John may have been born Stradbally Parish   There is a John Murray that married a Joanna Power in Abbeyside and Ring parish and they had two children Micheal and Bridget about the right years in the same parish   John immigrated about 1860 to Wayne County NY and also lived in Cayuga County.  There was also another John Murray born 1823 Mountaincastle, Modelligo, County Waterford that immigrated to Cayuga County NY. And a Jeremiah Murray born in Ireland, all these Murrays living in the same area of Cayuga I have to believe at least some of them are related.  It is an out of the way area.  You don’t say where your Murrays immigrated to in the U.S.   My brother has taken family finder and Y DNA tests with Family tree.  I have tested with Ancestry and also are not finding any matches with other Murrays   Where have you tested ?  Regards, Pam Murray
