Trying to research my great grandfather's family, he came to the states by himself in the 1872 and was named Michael Daley (Daly in Ireland). I have found what appears to be census information for what could be siblings of his (these names match records I have, but all I have is names). I'm hoping someone can translate "House 6 in Killeeshil" to an actual address I could find on a map. Is it possible? Would the house/farmstead still be staning? They lived at this address based on the 1901 & 1911 census. Also, seeing any information on where any of them could be buried along with death dates. Thanks!

1911 Census, all in house 6 in Killeeshil

John (brother of Mike I believe), age 38

Catherine (mother of Michael I believe), age 75

Bridget (sister of Micahel I believe), age 41

Rose (sister of Micahel I believe), age 40

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Rootsireland.ie shows a baptism for Rose Daly born to a father James and a mother Catherine Treanor. She was baptised on 23rd Dec 1862. Other siblings include: Timothy (surname noted as 'Dawley') baptised in 1859, Brigid, baptised in 1861 and Catherine baptised in 1865 all in the parish of Killeeshil. I couldn't see a baptism for Michael. You can see the original digitised images by searching at http://registers.nli.ie

According to the 1911 Census (Form B1) John Daly owned the land on which the house stood. You could have a look on the Griffith's Valuation where there are two listings for James Daly in that parish in 1860:

    http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=doNam…

As there are only two you could then go to the PRONI site to see if there is a listing of anyone paying rates in the Cancelled Books for that/those plots of land - if there is then the farm/plot still exists - there are a few up to 1929 after which the books are  not digitised:

They are a bit daunting to look at initially but the website is easy to use. You can learn more about them here:

I am not sure if the map website at this link below is still in operation but the article will let you know what the issues arising are with comparing the Griffith's Valuation entires to the Ordnance Survey maps to find a particular plot/farm:

Hope this fills in some blanks for you

    Best wishes

  • Hello Rick

You might want to check the website 'Ackinduff Daly'. Happy to help with further information if still online.

    Kind regards
