Coming to visit Ireland with my husband & son in mid-November (first trip to Ireland ever four my entire family) - trying to track down ancestral farm and distant cousins - would be a dream come true?  Could you help pinpoint where this might be - would be eternally grateful!

"The family farm is located in the section of The Town of Athlone on the west side of The River Shannon - (Connaught side) - County Roscommon.  The east section of the Town of Athlone lies in the County Westmeath.  The farm is in a section called Bealnamulla.  Dernasee is the name of the homestead areas of five families living close to one another - Heavey - Hughes - White - Gavin - Curley.  Malachy Heavey (1827/1828) farmed the land with the help of his brother John.  Malachy's eldest son Martin (1869-1960) took over running of the farm with his brother John (1873-1963).  Martin lived in a newer house near the original and continued to farm the land with his sons Malachy (b. 1915), Tom, Patrick, Martin & Michael (b. 1928). Sons Malachy & Michael  built a house in the area in 1968 and still farm the land (with cousins Michael, John & Malachy - sons of John - who still live in the original house with their sister Mary Kate)."

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I'm the parish liaison for a couple of parishes in northwest Roscommon but I live in the States. As far as I can see, we don't have an active parish liaison in the Athlone area.

I used Google Maps to track down Bealnamulla and Derrynasee.Hopefully you have that app or can get some help from someone who does. Bealnamullas is 5.2 kilometers to the west of Athlone and Derrynasee townland is another 3 kilometers to the northwest of Bealnamulla.

I did a quick check of the online Irish phone directory and did not see any Heavey records in the area but only a portion of Irish phone users are in the directory.

Have a great time! Let me know if you have further questions.
