My great great grandparents were James Kennedy and Mary Mara (O'Meara). James was born aboyt 1809 and Mary about 1816. They were married in 1834. My great grandfather was Bartholomew born 1854. They farmed in Coorevin.

Cathy:
Coorevin townland is actually in Uskane civil parish which is just to the east of Borrisokane parish. The RC church would be Borrisokane. The 1911 census for Coorevin showed three Kennedy families.

Hi, My grandfather (Michael O'Donohue (Donohue, O'Donoghue)) owned Coorevin House, Uskane and it is where my father and his two brothers and two sisters were born. His sisters were Catherine (1871) and Margaret (1873 ). One of them married John Meara (or O'Meara) and they had a shop and undertaking business in Main Street, Borrisokane. I know it is a longshot, but it is possible that your great-great-Grandmother was an aunt of my aunt's husband.

Cathy, Have just read your original posting. There is indeed a record of James Kennedy, Feigh, Borrisokane marrying Mary M(e)ara, Coorevin, Borrisokane on 02/02/1834. Feigh and Coorevin are neighbouring townslands in the present Catholic parish of Borrisokane in the Barony of Lower Ormond in Co. Tipperary and I am suggesting that following their wedding they resided in the townsland of Coorevin. It appears from research I am undertaking on the history of Kennedys in Lower Ormond that James Kennedy and Mary Mara produced the following off-spring - John born 25/11/1834, Anne born 13/02/1839, James born 04/09/1841, Mary born 27/04/1844,Catherine born 14/01/1848, Patrick born 08/02/1851, Bartley (Bartolomew) your great-grandfather born 09/06/1854 and Cornelius born 05/11/1857. So it would appear that the person you believe to be your great grandfather -Bartley Kennedy of Coorevin, was one of 8 siblings born around the time of the Great Famine in Ireland.
Trust this is of interest to you, feel free to get back to me,
Tom Kennedy, Borrisokane, Co. Tipperary

So good to hear from you, Tom!! Yes, indeed, this is the correct family. In fact, when I worked with Nora O'Meara (paid search through the North Tipp Genealogy) some 7-8 years ago, she sent me that information and also information on another Bartholomew Kennedy in Coorevin who MAY have been also related to James Kennedy. I recall another Kennedy family in the area, Hugh, I think. I do have all of the records she sent me. This past September my husband and I were in Coorevin and saw the farms and the area of my Kennedy family. I still have relatives nearby who met for a night at Paddy's Bar in Terryglass. There were about 40 of us. I have many of the names. My third cousins, two of the Buckley brothers, showed us all around; it was fabulous! My direct email is castreit2@gmail.com. I have done DNA testing and have a GEDmatch number, if you have done that. I would definitely be interested in hearing about you and your Kennedy research. I have a fair amount of information on this family I would be happy to share as well as learn about your research.
Sincerely,
Cathy Hafner Streit

Hi there
Just wondering are you the Tom Kennedy I met in Borrisokane in 1995 when I visited my mum's cousin Eileen Hyndland? I was researching my Loftus ancestry. My great grandfather Jim Loftus had a woodturning business in the town up until his death in the early 1930's. If I am correct you told us a story about running errands for my grandfather's brothers Tom and Bill Loftus.

Sorry Danget, not the same Tom Kennedy, there are 3 of us around the Borrisokane area that I know of, I'm not a native but have lived here since 1980 so am learning about it all the time.Hope you enjoyed your visit.
Best wishes from Tipperary
