Greetings,

Look for any available information of the families of Owen Tegart b 1800 and Marquerite MaGuire b 1805.  They married approximately 1827. Son Owen V. (possibly Vincent) Tegart b. 1829.

Owen V. Tegart went to Indiana, USA in 1848.  His sibling Cornelious, Mary and Margaret joined him. His mother went to USA. Unknown about Owen Sr.

May have been from the area of MaGuires Bridge,

Thanks,

Barbara Tegart Warman

  • Researching in Ireland in the early 1800s can be very difficult. It?s long before the start of statutory records and so the records are few and far between. If the family came from Aghalurcher and were RC, then the bad news is that that parish has no records prior to 1835. If Cornelius, Mary or Margaret were born after that date you might just find their baptisms, otherwise it looks to be too early for the events you need.

I am not sure if those parish records are on-line anywhere. There is a paper copy held in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast as well as the National Library in Dublin. You could also search the Fermanagh Gold site to see if they have them.

The only positive thing is that, though most Irish censuses pre 1901 were destroyed, some fragments remain and that includes the 1821 census for the parish of Aghalurcher. There?s only 1 Margaret Maguire in it of the right age. Whether it?s your Margaret, I have no way of telling for certain but there?s a possibility it could be her since there?s no other person of that name listed:

No Taggarts/Tegarts listed for that parish.

The surname Taggart is derived from the Irish word Saggart, meaning priest.
