My great grandfather, John Taylor, born around 1849, left Fermanagh for Scotland where he married a Scots girl in 1868, aged 19. His father was James Taylor, Coal Dealer and his mother, already deceased by 1868, was Margaret maiden surname Brandon. I think they may have married around 1846. Griffith's Valuation shows two recorded James Taylors, one in Kinawley and one in Drumkeeran. I wonder which is correct, if at all. I have no other information, although I think there must have been a baptismal certificate to facilitate his marriage as he was Roman Catholic. Is there any record of them at all in the parish? Thank you.

Hi Maura,
Thank you for your message. I hope that someone recognises the names and is able to assist you.
Have you tried looking for his parents? marriage record? Perhaps if you can find this it may help you determine which parish they came from:
Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available. For Kinawley parish, follow this link:
From Drumkeeran (Magheraculmany):
There are a few online sites you could try also:
www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.
www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.
