I'm currently researching my family history.
I have ancestors living in (St) Peter's Place, Newry in both the 1911 and 1901 census.
There is the Doherty family:
1911 --> http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Down/Newry_West_Urban/…
There is also the Farrell family:
1901 --> http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Down/Newry_West_Urban/…
1911 --> http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Down/Newry_West_Urban/…
The way I understand it, a Doherty married into the Farrell family and then the married couple moved out into the house opposite. Hence the two families.
Bridget Farrell married Patrick Doherty in 1905.
I wondered if anyone can give me any insight or advice on how to continue my search...
Thanks

Patrick and Brigit (sic) were married on 8.7.1905. If you want to see their marriage certificate on-line, you can do so on the GRONI website, using the ?search registrations? option:
(You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs ?2 to a view a certificate).
Tradition was to marry in the bride?s church (which should be on the certificate, unless it was a Registry Office marriage). That church may be the place to look for her baptism and that of any siblings.
I notice that though the family are in Newry, Co Down in the 1911 census, their 3 children were born in Co Armagh. So evidently they had been living somewhere else for a few years. You could check the childrens births to see. For example Matthew was born 23.6.1910. Birth registered in Newry.
Looking at the Farrell family in 1901:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Down/Newry_West_Urban/Peter_s_Place/1246261/
I searched on the GRONI site for some of the childrens births, to get the mother?s maiden name. Brigid was born 9.10.1881; James 25.10.1888; Joseph 2.6.1894. The mother?s maiden name was Magennity or McGennity. (It varies). I also noticed a Rose Farrell born 12.5.1883 to these parents. She isn?t on the 1901 census. Presumably she had either died or left home. Using the mother?s maiden name, I found that James Ferrell married Catherine Maginnitty on 4th Nov 1877, in Newry & Mourne area.
So you could then get a copy of their marriage certificate, and find their parents names, occupations and the family addresses in 1877.
You could repeat that exercise with Patrick Doherty?s family.
Labourers are notoriously difficult to follow because they tended to move around a bit to follow the work. However if they did stay put, you can often trace where they lived, and when they came and went using the revaluation records.
