Hello,

I believe my ancestors were William Dougherty (born around 1831) who married Ellen Hickisson (Hickerson or Hisckison?) born around 1841.

The town they came from was Turnakibeck, Kildollagh.  Does anyone know where this town was?

William and Ellen emmigrated to Canada in 1880.

  • Hi,

Thank you very much for your message.

Turnakibeck is a townland in the civil parish of Kildollagh in Co. Derry.

A townland is the smallest division of land in Ireland-sometimes it may only refer to a field or two. The name may still not even still be in use. This is why it is not showing on any modern maps.. However it may be possible to find it on some historical maps. You could try searching here for historical ordnance survey maps:

Alternatively you could try contacting the Derry Area Historical Society for some possible assistance or advice.
