Hello Kilmore, we are searching for info regarding the Callahan family of Kilmore. We would like to see if there was a Susannah (or Susan) Callahan born abt. 1730 or so & if she emigrated to the US (NY) in the 1740's. Any info regarding this family's history (esp. 1700's) would be appreciated.

Thank you all very much!!

  • Hi,

Thank you very much for your message.

Unfortunately, it may be difficult to get the records that you are searching for as the reality of finding documentation pertaining to births/baptisms/marriages/deaths in Ireland prior to 1800 ? particularly in rural areas ? is that they simply may not exist. Most of what is available is from Church of Ireland registers as this was the official church of the country at the time. Most surviving Church of Ireland records are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. Here are their websites: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ and http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42

Here is a link to a list of Church of Ireland Registers in the Representative Church Body Library: http://www.ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/parregs.pdf

It may be an idea to contact Armagh Ancestry for some assistance however a fee may apply. Here is their email@ researcher@armagh.gov.uk

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
