My great great Grandmother, Mary O'Sullivan was born in 1860/61. The family were roman catholic. She immigrated to New Zealand when she was 19 years old, arriving in around 1880.  She married William Bain in NZ in 1884.

On her marriage certificate she stated that she was born in Killarney, County Kerry and her parents are named as Elonora O'Sullivan (Murphy) and Patrick O'Sullivan.

Mary died in 1943 and her death certificate indicates that she was born in Kilgarvan and her parents were named as Nora O'Sullivan (Murphy) and John O'Sullivan.

I have been unable to find evidence of Mary's birth, or whether she had any brothers and sisters.  I have a photograph of a house in Kilgarvan, taken by one of Mary's daughters in 1953, with the caption "Mother's home.  Sunville, Kilgarvan."  I also have a photograph of a house in Kenmare, taken at the same time, captioned "Nan's house in Kenmare.

I would very much appreciate any information that anyone may have of other descendant's, or any tips on where to look.  I have been on numerous sites already.

I will be in Kenmare in May and could physically follow up any information.

  • Frances, Thank you so much for your very quick response.  If this is the correct family, the records could relate to siblings of my great grandmother.  Regards,Ryrie
