My great grandmother Anastasia Barry, born 1842 in Mulrankin, left Ireland from New Ross in 1853 on the Ship Harmony with her parents, Richard Barry and Mary (Furlong) Barry and her brothers John born 1834, Joseph born abt 1836, sisters Margaret born 1838 and Mary born 1844.  Anastasia's mother died shortly before they reached Quebec, Canada in June of 1853.

I'm trying to find the parents and siblings of Richard Barry born abt 1810, and Mary Furlong born abt 1814, both born in Co Wexford.  Richard had two brothers, Patrick born abt 1821 and William born 1824.  Patrick left Ireland with his family about the same time as Richard, and William left abt 1846.  Richard & Mary were married in 1833, and Patrick married Ellen Furlong (sister of Mary) in 1845.

Hoping someone might be connected to these families.

  • Hi

    Thank you for your message.

I have forwarded your request for assistance to a volunteer in County Wexford who may be able to offer some advice or assistance.

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you.

Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi there, I was doing a search on a DNA match to a Sylvester Barry from Wexford. Ireland.  My know Barry ancestors were Richard Barry born abt 1765, wife unknown. They had two sons, John Richard Barry, born abt 1790 in Ireland and died in Prince Edward Island, Canada (PEI) in his early 90's.  His brother, Thomas Barry born about 1800 in Ireland, died unknown and was married to a Bridget Cosgrove.  Their son, John Thomas Barry, 1820-1887 was my great grandfather.  He emigrated to PEI in the early 1840's and died in Wellington, PEI.  Other children of Thomas Barry and Bridgid Cosgrove were Elizabeth, Patrick, Richard and Nicholas.  Nicholas was born in Wexford, Ireland and the others were born in Tallow, Waterford, Ireland.  They were weavers but Thomas Barry must have been well educated as he wrote a letter to his brother, John Richard in PEI, about sending out his son, John to sail to PEI.  It was well written.  My email is cudfox@hotmail.com if you would like to explore our possible shared Barry heritage.  Thank you, Mary Cudmore, PEI Canada
