I am interested in the King family who lived/worked in Iragh in the 19th cntury.Edward (born about 1825)came ot Australia in 1844. His referres were Nicholas Prendergast, Matthew McNamara and John McGrath. His parents were Patrick and Ellen. He may be related to Joh King(born 1815) who also came to Australia about 1841.

  • Hi reference your post as the time frame you are researching is well prior to civil registration in 1864 you will have to rely on baptism records which you can access for Kilkenny on www.rootsireland.ie I had a prelimenary search and the only record I could see was a Marriage for a Patrick King in 1792 in Co Kilkenny. Any baptisms were in 1860's. You didnt mention what denomination your Kings were?

You could also look at www.nationalarchives.ie which has Tithe Applotment Records and there are 9 King surnames recorded in Kilkenny. On same site Griffiths Valuation has King records for Co Kilkenny. Unfortunately these records will only place a person in a specific location so you would need to know details of location where your kings lived - not very helpful I know.
