Hello!! I am searching for my husband's grandfather, Michael James McDonough. I have reason to believe that he was born to Barbara Berry and Bartholomew McDonagh in Lettermullen, Carraroe, around 1880-1881. I have seen a Baptism record, but unable to find any other information. If this is the Michael we are looking for, he emigrated to the US before 1914, but I am unable to find any records.  Does anyone have any infomation on this family?  Any information would be greatly appreciated!!

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I looked at the 1901 census for Lettermullen and although there were many McDonagh/McDonogh families iisted, I did not see one that had a son Michael around 20 nor did I see a record with parents Bartholomew and Barbara. I checked Roots Ireland and that couple also had a Bridget baptized in June 1879.

I'm wondering if the family left Ireland before 1901. Did Michael come into New York? If he came in to NYC possibly there would be a record on the Ellis Island site www.ellisisland.org

  • Roger,   Thank you for your reply.  I have recently found him through the Bridget that you had mentioned.  He did come to the US in 1900, which was much earlier than I had thought.

    Thanks!!
