Mary Judge Connor (O'Connor) Welch (Walsh/Welsh) was born in Galway (believe in Rafwee) 6 Jun 1823. She married first Patrick Connor and had one son Patrick in 1848 in Ireland. When Mary and her husband immigrated to the US between 1848 and 1856 they left their son with Mary's brother Martin Judge. Family lore says on the trip to the US Thomas died on the boat. Mary married James Welch who was an immigrant also from Galway. In 1856 they were living in Virginia and had their first child Mary Welch. They then migrated to Iowa. Had a daughter Margaret in 1860. The Patrick Connor came over alone in 1860 and joined the family in Iowa. A cousin John Judge also joined the family in Iowa. A census record indicates John's father was Martin Judge and his mother Mary Ovale. I did find a census record for Martin Judge family in 1841 in Rafwee.I am looking for records on the name of the parents of Mary Judge, Thomas Connor, James Welch.  I am trying to determine if any relatives of the Judge and Welch families still live in Galway. I have not been able to find any immigration records for these family members to date. Thank you for your assistance. Lori Fogarty

Unfortunately, the RC parish for Killeany civil parish is Killursa and records for that parish do not start until 1880 according to the reference book I have. Civil registration did not begin until 1864.

Here is a link to the online Irish phone book to search for listings in Galway with your surnames of interest. Make sure you use the Residential Tab.
