My Grandmother - Ellen Holian - daughter of Thomas Holian & Sarah Mulkeen(born at Coogue North in Aghamore Parish), was born at Derrymore in Bekan. She had siblings; Sarah, Martin, Patrick, Mary, Delia&Celia(twins) and Nora (married to Ned Kneafsey - who was the last remaining person living at the homestead ( who just passed a few years back)
Thomas Holian born about 1835 was the son of Patrick and mother Ellen Tarpey. Patrick was a stonemason by trade and was likely born outside of Bekan parish. Patrick and Ellen were married sometime before 1830. He died in 1869 at age (79).
I believe there is a gravestone for the Holian family, probably carved by Patrick. He and his wife Ellen and their son Martin are listed on the stone. I have a faded photo of same dating from about 1928. I don't know when Sarah died but she was a Natz US Citizen and lived in NYC until the late 1930's. Martin died about 1925. Mary & Celia both died in NYC and are buried in Calvary in NYC. Delia returned home in 1970 and died in Mayo in 1974 I believe. I believe Patrick died in the mid to late 1960's and I don't know when Nora passed but she was born in 1895.

Dear Michael
Apologies for the long delay in getting back to you,.
You have gathered quite a bit of info on the family which is great given the early period involved. Is there anything in particular you want to find out? Do you know where the headstone is you refer to - I live close to Ballyhaunis and could have a look for you if you wanted a current photo
Best wishes
