I am looking for information on the O'Brien family I am part of. I have very little information to go by. I know that my 2x great grandparents names were Roger O'Brien and Mary McNicholas, my great grandfather was Patrick Jospeh O'Brien/great grand mother was Bridget (Brigid) Coleman. My research has my great great grandfather born approx 1823 in Mayo, believed to be Bohola, but cannot confirm. His wife, Mary McNicholas was born approx 1830, no location known.
My great-grandfather was born in approx 1871 in Rathrurane (sp), Bohola, as Patrick Joseph O'Brien, though recently I found a baptismal record showing Patt O'Brien, so now I'm not sure if he is indeed Patrick Joseph or simply Patt.
I am also looking for information on my grandfather Patrick Joseph O'Brien Jr. born Feb 1911, the tricky part is we have two separate birth certificates on him, one Irish Free State and the other New York New York USA. I have been trying to determine for years where he exactly was born. The unfortunate part is he died when I was a child and he never talked much about his childhood and my great grandparents died many years before my birth.

I located a baptismal record on Roots Ireland that shows your great-grandfather was born in 1874. See below. He also had siblings: Bridget 1867, Anne 1869 and Rodger 1872 and possibly more but I only searched from 1866-1876.
The townland was Rathrowan in Bohola civil parish. Here is the link to the 1856 Griffiths Valuation for Bohola and Roger is listed in Rathrowan. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/mayo/bohola.php
I would check the 1901 and 1911 censuses for Rathrowan. There were four O'Brien families in Rathrowan for both censuses.
I looked in the 1911 census and there was no Patrick O'Brien who was 1-2 months old. Based on this info, I assume your grandfather was born in the USA.
