I am looking for info on my ancestors. John Coleman and Bridgit Lavin married and had a son Thomas Daniel born 24 Dec 1841.  They owned a tavern in Sligo, I was told they came from Ballymote. Their son emigrated to the United States after their deaths.  He immigrated in 1863.  Any information would be appreciated.

The records for Ballymote/Emlaghfad/Kilmorgan parish go back to 1824. The National Library of Ireland on July 8th plans to place all RC parish registers online. Your parish is in the Diocese of Achonry. Looks like the records prior to 1856 may be difficult to read since they have a modern transcript starting in 1856. I would look for Thomas and any siblings when the register goes online.

I also looked at the 1858 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Emlaghfad civil parish. There was a John Coleman in Rathdoony More townland. Not sure if this record is for your ancestor.http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/sligo/emlaghfad.htm
