Looking to learn more about Margaret Malone

I did a quick check of Roots. They only have seven RC parishes for Co. Clare and Scariff is one of them. I found Catherine in 1862 with parents Patrick and Bridget, There are a few other records. On my way out but I will get back to you.

Also, later this summer the National Library of Ireland plans to place the RC parish registers online for free searching. You can view Scariff records at that time.

I am confident with the 1864 date.  It appears on her immigration info (1885), marriage info (1890) and death certificate (1933).  Her sister Katherine's info indicates. Birth @1871 @ Scariff, Marriage @ 1896 @ Fitchburg, Massachusetts and death @ 1910 @ Fitchburg, Massachusetts. I have immigration info of Katherine arriving in Boston @ 1890

Maybe there are two Patrick Malone families. I found a baptismal record for Margaret in 1860 in Scariff with parents Patrick and Bridget. Also found an Ann in 1857 with the same parents and Biddy in 1854. 

Emigrants tended to make themselves younger or older when they left Ireland. Check out the Scariff records when NLI adds them online.

That's the issue I've come up against. I have been unable to find the "magic bullet" that connects me to the right Patrick and/or Bridget.

I am having exactly the same issue with other great grandparents: Patrick Reilly and Mary Sugrue @ Kilcommon/Tipperary

Well I have found some very valuable info relative to my grandmother Maragret Malone recently. I have numerous US records indicating her birth to be 1864 in Scarriff, Clare.  I have been unable to find any info  in Ireland up to now to substantiate that info.  Previous searches I did used 1864 +/- 2yrs but to no avail. I did find an Irish registration indicating a Margaret Maolne born in Scarriff in 1864.  Unfortunately that is the only info on the registration.  Earliar this week I once again dug into the NLI Catholic Parish Registration but this time I began w/1860 as a baptizm year.  Bingo!!!!!!  I found Margaret baptized August 12, 1860. I also learned that although all our info up till then indicated her mother as Bridget Mannix.  Her baptism record indicated Bridget Minogue. I have since learned the the name Mannix and Minogue are somehow connected.  It is my understanding that there are cases where ne sibling is Mannix, another Minogue or even a parent is Mannix and a child is Minogue. Coincidently I have learned of two different families here in Fitchburg Massachusetts have Mannix connections back in thi same time frame and they too have come up against the Mannix/Minogue issue.  All this being said, can anyone point me in the proper direction to understand how/why this "interchangeability" came about.

I can't help with Mannix/Minogue. I will send your message to another IRO volunteer who may have an explanation. If she does, I'm sure she will post here.

Thank you for your query to Ireland Reaching Out.  I note your remarks re the two names of Minogue and Mannix.  I  will ask a local person about this and revert. Some names were interchangeable.  You might be interested to know that the baptisms for Scariff are available online at the Clare Library website.  Leave this with me and

Thank you very much Roger and Jane.  As I learned of the Minogue/Mannix "relationship" I remembered a previous response from Roger O'Donnell indicating a Margaret born in 1860. I went back here to IRO to review it.  I found the info he talks to and then found it in the NLI Catholic Registers.  I will do the same today in terms of years prior to 1860 for other siblings that Roger refers to.  I reviewed the registers from 1860 to 1867 and did find another sibling, Patrick in 1866.  I know of another sister, Kate, that came to the US and died in 1910.  Her US records indicate a birth of 1871   I'll be doing a search for her also now that I know that the 1871 date is suspect.  I learned on the Mannix/Minogue "connection" from a local family (Fitchburg, Massachusetts) family I know very well.  Their grandfather, Patrick Carroll was married to the Kate I mention above. I also learned that this Patrick Carroll knew my grandfather, James Reilly back in Ireland.  Patrick and James married sisters Kate and Margaret.  Lastly, I have found that not only are birth date suspects but the surnames are sometimes altered.  It turns out that my Reilly's are actually Rahilly's (Pallasgreen, Limerick).  I just connected (this past weekend) with one them, Patrick Rahilly, Come to find out he knew via his research that his great grandfather had three brothers that left Ireland in the 1880s.  He was never able to find more on them and felt that they likely went to Australia/New Zealand.  Those three brothers all came here to Fitchburg, Massachusetts. The earliest date we find the Reilly spelling in on the ship manifests when they came to the US in mid-1880. The Reilly spelling has remained the same since. It is anyones guess as to why they never corrected it.
