Hello, I am looking for information about my third great-grandparents, Daniel Kelly and Catherine Doran, who were married in Ballinakill on 3 September, 1809.
I would like to know how I might find out birth information on both of them, and if there may be birth records I can access on any of their children.
Thanks,
Donalda Kelly

Donalda:
Unfortunately, there are not many church records in Co. Galway that go back to 1809-1830. I checked Roots Ireland but I could not find any records in that period in the south Galway area for Kelly children with parents Daniel and Catherine. It looks like church records may have started later.
I also looked for Tithe Applotment records for Ballynakill parish for Daniel Kelly and could not locate a record. www.titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie
Do you have any other info on the family?

Hi Roger,
I only found the marriage record this afternoon, and have since used Ancestry.ca to locate a baptism record for Daniel and Catherine's daughter Catherine who was baptised 7 January, 1810 in Ballinakill.
I have not had similar luck in finding their other children (in a very limited search on Ancestry) Thomas, Edward, Mary, Daniel, Elizabeth or William.
But I am not clear if they were all born in Ireland or if some were born after they emigrated to Canada.
I believe that happened in 1837, but do not have definitive proof.
Thanks for you help!

Hello Donalda
I am looking for relatives of an Elizabeth Kelly Born about 1827 with parents Daniel Kelly and Catherine Doran (sp?) I think she had a brother Edward but not sure of birth. Would this be the same family with the parents marragfe in 1809? Elizabeth married John Glynn and lived in Quebec Canada.
thanks
John

Hi John,
Thanks for contacting me. Yes, I think we are related.
Since my post several years ago I have found out that Ancestry (where I found Daniel and Catherine's marriage record) has made a huge error, mislabelling an entire set of parish records.
They were actually married in Ballinakill in County Laois.
The National Library of Ireland parish records confirm this, along with the 1810 baptism of their daughter Catherine and the September, 1827 baptism of their daughter Mary.
I am attaching Eliza Kelly's marriage record from 22 January, 1849 in Calumet Island, Quebec.
But it says she married HUGH Glenn or Glynn, not John.
The baptism records of several of their children confirm this is the couple's names.
Do you have more information on the Kellys or any family pictures?

Thanks for your information. Daniel and Catherine are also my wife's third great grandparents. Her line is down through Hugh and Eliza's (I knew Hugh but wrote John by mistake before) son John Glynn. I cannot add anything to the Kelly tree or have any photos. We are going to Ireland next month and will now try to fit in a stop in the right Ballinakill.

Hi Donalda
just to let you know we did in fact go to Ballinakill Laos on our Ireland trip. The old graveyard has not been kept up and has very long grass and it had rained so did not venture into it. Only saw one Kelly in the new graveyard and the churches were all closed up that day. At least we have probably walked on the same spots that the ancestors had.

Hi John,
I also stood in Ballinakill this summer. No finds to report. It's nice to contact another family connection. Are you on Ancestry?
